The Archer Academy seeks to appoint an exceptional teacher of Science to join our high achieving, motivated and collaborative department. The Science department follows the Activate curriculum at KS3 (years 7-8) and the AQA Science specifications at GCSE (both Triple and Combined Science years 9-11). High quality learning resources are in place for both key stages, which are routinely reviewed by the Science Team and utilised as a shared resource to reduce planning workload. Practical work forms an important component of our Science curriculum; two dedicated Science Technicians support this. Additionally, regular department meetings focus on sharing outstanding teaching practice, subject knowledge enhancement and student feedback support. We have a successful department and whole school CPD program for beginning teachers and a number of teachers have completed their NQT years as part of the team. Through hosting PGCE students on a regular basis, we also have strong ties to the Institute of Education.Science results are outstanding at GCSE. Last year, in Core Science our students made +0.6 levels of progress compared to students with similar starting points, with 30% of results being at 9-7 (including 12 at grade 9). Triple Science is also strong with 67% of grades being at 9-7 and over 50 grade 9s achieved. Science is held in high regard at the Archer Academy and is led by dedicated joint heads of department with responsibility for KS3 and KS4. Our curriculum is rich, creative and academically rigorous with the aim that all our students become scientifically literate and appreciate the importance of Science in their lives. We offer opportunities to study Additional Science in Year 9 as part of the options process and around one third of our cohort elect to take Triple Science at GCSE. There are a host of extra-curricular opportunities, both within our Enrichment programme and as part of a wider programme of talks and visits, including a dedicated Science Week.The successful applicant will have the potential to be an outstanding classroom teacher. They will be passionate about developing inspirational teaching strategies and working to raise the standard of teaching and learning, both within their own classroom and throughout the department.
