Job Description

Job PurposeA Manager role within Mazars has been created. Your role will be advisory focussed. You will work closely with a number of Partners, Director and Senior Manager team to deliver a high quality tax service to not-for-profit (“NFP”) clients, whilst building up and sharing your own knowledge and expertise across all taxes associated with not-for-profit businesses (including corporation tax, income tax, capital gains tax and stamp duty). Your primary focus will be to support the Partner and Directors who work in this area to deliver high quality tax advice, whilst also having a role in managing existing client relationships, building relationships with other Mazars NFP specialists within and outside of tax and actively pursuing new opportunities, thus helping to generate advisory work from clients. There is considerable scope for shaping the role and your career in this area as there would be an expectation that a successful candidate could be able to lead this business in the future. Having said that if you are not interested in leading a NFP business in this way we would still be happy to discuss the role as we are keen to develop our team in this area. LocationThe role is national but there are pockets of expertise in certain offices. Birmingham is a centre of expertise and is where the majority of the associated CT compliance team is based but we are open to recruit people who could be based in offices outside of Birmingham; London, MK or Manchester for example provided they are willing to travel on occasions to deliver advice, meet with prospects and present at National seminars. ClientsThe Birmingham Centre of Excellence for NFP tax actively advises over 100 clients and is growing as it becomes the national ‘go to’ point in the firm for tax support for NFP clients. There are over 300 NFP clients across Mazars and work is undertaken across the country with experts also based in Manchester, Glasgow, Leeds, Poole and London. You will assist the service team to provide advice to, and managing relationships with, existing clients. You will also undertake profile building activities within the firm to build up relationships with non-tax and non-NFP colleagues so that they refer clients and opportunities to the Centre of Excellence. The firm also runs several client seminars and training sessions which you will attend in order to build relationships whilst developing your technical knowledge. Job Role• Working with the wider advisory team to develop your NFP tax advisory knowledge and capabilities (including audit teams were appropriate); • Researching new and existing legislation, including providing technical analysis on the impact that this may have on clients; Applying knowledge to help clients achieve their objects whilst managing their risk • Providing advice, proposals, memos and reports for review by the partner/director and reviewing drafts prepared by more junior members of the team; • Drafting statutory and non-statutory clearances in respect of transactional work, and actively liaising with HMRC; • Liaising with clients and colleagues throughout advisory engagements; • Helping develop the business and the seek new opportunities both within Mazars and externally by creating a network of contacts and referrers of work; • Liaising with specialist NFP networks such as the Charity Taxes Group and BUFDG. • Managing WIP and fees; • Mentoring the team; Person Specification• Corporation tax focus, with a strong technical knowledge from a corporate tax background; • Experience in NFP tax is necessary, although further training and personal development will be provided. • ACA or CTA qualified • Ability to apply and explain tax rules to clients with all levels of background knowledge; • Strong client handling skills and the ability to develop good relationships with clients and other professionals; • The individual would be expected to delegate efficiently, review work and have the ability to encourage and foster development of the team; • Collaboratively work with other senior members of the advisory team and other teams within the firm in delivering advisory projects; • Excellent communication skills both oral and written; • Adaptable and organised with a commercial approach; • Ability and/or willingness to research complex technical issues; • Ability to exercise judgement; • Ability to help generate creative solutions to problems; • Ability to demonstrate an understanding of risk management issues; • Demonstrates business development skills and has a track record of identifying opportunities; • Seeks to progress their career within the tax profession in a specialised but highly sought-after advisory environment; possible ambition to eventually lead the NFP business.WORKING AT MAZARSWe embrace your individual strengths to capitalise on what makes you unique.
