Department Overview The Operations Engineering team is responsible for implementing and supporting GMO’s hybrid on-premise and cloud environment. This team is responsible for the implementation and management/maintenance of the 1,500 Windows Server/Linux Systems across private and public cloud, along with storage, enterprise monitoring platforms, database operations, and application issues.Position OverviewThis Technology Operations Engineer role is responsible for ensuring availability and optimization of all systems/storage infrastructure along with monitoring platforms across the public and private cloud. The individual will provide support for the various environments and work closely with a number of teams throughout the Technology group to implement and engineer solutions to problems, involving members of other teams where necessary.The successful candidate will be able to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment, analyze technical problems and create solutions with the use of existing techniques and tools. The successful candidate will have the drive to want to implement solutions to eliminate recurring problems. The understanding of high-level infrastructure goals and the candidate’s ability to communicate those to other technology teams will be required.Requirements

  • Can-do attitude in researching and fixing issues with the desire to learn and quickly grow skillset
  • Degree in Computer Science (or a related technical field)
  • Problem solving skills using resources at hand
  • Demonstrate strong scripting capability and coding best practices around systems integration and management using multiple languages such as PowerShell and JavaScript
  • Demonstrated good understanding of Windows Server, Active Directory, and core networking components e.g. DHCP/DNS
  • High level of competence in process improvement; the ability to develop, document and implement new strategies and SOPs for use within the team
  • Strong analytical and research skills - must be detail oriented
  • Aware of capabilities of Monitoring platforms and desire to use them to better the IT Infrastructure product
  • Self-direction; experience in planning and accomplishing multiple simultaneous projects and goals
  • Ability to spot patterns and fix the root cause of the problem using a scalable solution
  • Ability to effectively interact with external parties on technical matters, often requiring coordination between organizations
  • Ability to promote a cooperative work environment
  • Preferred Skills
  • Understanding of Linux operating systems
  • Cloud based computing knowledge a plus
  • Configuration management using Chef/Ansible
  • Basic understanding of SQL and Oracle
  • Demonstrated proficiency with CIFS, NFS, TCP/IP, LDAP, SSH, DNS, SMTP, load balancing and troubleshooting
  • Has experience working with an offshore managed services team
