The Electoral Commission are looking for a Systems Accountant to join our team in LondonJob Type: Full Time & Fixed Term 9 monthsSalary: £51,309 per annumLocation: LondonDirectorate: Finance and Corporate ServicesClosing Date: Monday 5 October 2020.Interviews Held: Week commencing Monday 2 November 2020.The Electoral Commission is the independent body that regulates party and election finance, sets standards for well-run elections and encourages people to register to vote. This has been a busy and exciting time at the Commission with a number of significant polls having taken place including the Scottish Parliament, the Welsh Assembly, the Northern Ireland Assembly, the Mayor of London, and the referendum on membership of the EU.To support these and other activities we are developing and improving our finance systems to best support internal processes and reporting. The finance and procurement team provide services to the organisation including monthly management accounts, supplier payments, payroll and financial accounting duties.Systems Accountant - The RoleThis role will help the finance team adopt a new way of working and also educate the business. You will work with the team and other key stakeholders to review our current processes and then to assist with the tender for a cloud based GL system – this would enable more flexibility and better reporting to reduce spreadsheet use for reporting. This would allow quicker and more accurate forecasting and reporting for month and year-end.You will work with the head of finance & procurement and lead to implement better processes and procedures in order to enhance the capacity and capability of a new system.As our Systems Accountant, you will help facilitate the Commission in meeting the aims and objectives of the Corporate Plan. This includes the efficient and effective delivery of financial services to enable the Commission to deliver its objectives. To enable decision-making, maintenance of sound financial control and delivery of high quality and timely monthly and annual accounts.Systems Accountant - Who we are looking forAn experienced, fully qualified individual, who has a successful track record in a similar role. You will be a self-starter with the ability to make day to day decisions about the effective running of the GL system.The project is of high risk, a failure could result in a qualification of the annual accounts and/or the Commission be at risk to fraud; if the system implementation is not completed to a high standard.
