The RoleThe Subject Leader (SL) is responsible for managing the assessment process for qualifications. Reporting to the Head of Subject, and working as part of a subject team, the collective aim is to deliver a professional and customer focused service.The TeamThe General Qualifications Assessment team is responsible for the delivery of GCSEs and A levels as well as a range of other qualifications in the UK and internationally. We work with examiners to set examination papers, train and monitor examiners and thenensure qualifications are marked and awarded so that candidates everywhere get the right results.A day in the life ofThe Subject Leaders role is varied and alters throughout the year depending on the cycle of assessment delivery. SLs will attend team meetings, manage and lead their allocated subject and support the Subject Co-ordinators in the team. SLs may be involvedin projects set by the Head of Subject or Head of Department and will work collaboratively across the department.Other typical activities
  • Overseeing Question Paper/Assessment Material production and sign-off to a deadline for a qualification or set of qualifications
  • Quality monitoring of examiners and their marking of the examinations
  • Ensuring timely escalations to the Head of Subject on adherence to schedules or on regulatory matters
  • Managing their own training and seeking advice and support from their Head of Subject
  • Identifying efficiencies and quality enhancements in processes
  • Working collaboratively within own subject team as well as across the wider Assessment team
QualificationsWho we are looking forWe welcome applications from any background. As long as you meet the core competencies we are after, you can be successful in this role. Subject Leaders may have a range of experience in assessment roles such as a teacher or departmental lead in a Schoolor College, or some other role in the education sector. On some occasions they will have moved into the role having increased their knowledge and skills whilst in a Subject Coordinator role. Regardless of experience, they will be motivated to lead externalexamining teams and be effective communicators. The General Qualifications Assessment team is friendly, non-judgmental and open, with a strong emphasis on teamwork.Additional InformationThe role is based in our High Holborn office. A typical working pattern is Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours a week. Weekend working is required at busy times throughout the year with time off in lieu available.
