For furtherinformation about Nomura, visit www.nomura.comDepartment OverviewThe Risk Management Department (the "Second Line of Defence") provides senior management with an independent view of the principal risks taken by individual business units. The Risk Department at Nomura is broadly organised into these groups: Market RiskManagement, Credit Risk Management, Stress Testing Group, Risk Change, Risk Methodology Group, and Model Validation Group.Within the Risk Management Department, the Stress Testing Group (STG) facilitates the firms overall stress testing objectives which can be summarised as follows;

  • Perform stress testing at the firm-wide level across all risk classes (market, credit, operational, liquidity risks) as well as within risk class, counterparty, and trading book levels;
  • Feed stress testing results into other business processes such as stressed revenues, capital planning, decision making and regulatory capital;
  • Satisfy the regulators scenario requests and other infrastructure and control requirements.
Role DescriptionThe Stress Testing Group is in the middle of a strategic programme of improvements to the stress testing framework. In contributing to the implementation of the new operating model for Stress Testing, the role will involve, primarily, the implementationof scenarios in our Risk and Front Office systems through the use of scripting tools, testing those scenarios to verify that the desired shocks have been achieved, and producing evidence of this testing.Additional responsibilities will include investigation of pricing errors and raising these with Front Office quants, developing and maintaining tools built in Python and VBA, raising issues with Risk IT and Front Office IT, discussing stress testing methodologywith the Risk Methodology Group, assisting Risk Managers with their requirements, contributing ideas for the improvement of processes and systems, testing of new IT development, updating manuals as required, and preparation of slides for the Scenario ImplementationForum of senior managers.Key Objectives Critical to Success:
  • Working with other team members and other teams (Risk, IT, Front Office quants) towards the implementation of the strategic operating model:
    • Timely testing and implementation of stress testing scenarios
    • Process improvement
    • Develop and maintain tactical tools used in automation of scenario testing
    • Help define strategic IT requirements
    • Retirement of legacy stress testing system and testing incremental development of the replacement.
Skills, experience, qualifications and knowledge required:
  • Batchelors degree (or higher) in Maths, Economics, Finance, Physics or Engineering.
  • 3 years or more experience in an Investment Bank, preferably in Risk Management or Trading, ideally in Stress Testing.
  • Some understanding of economics, risk management measures and methodology, and financial products preferred. Active interest in current affairs, financial markets and their behaviour under varying economic conditions.
  • Strong knowledge / experience in Python, VBA or equivalent language a must.
  • Demonstrable ability and confidence to build relationships at all levels.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Ability to work autonomously and to recognise when to implement recommendations or escalate issues.
  • Tenacious, with strong organisational skills, ability to multi-task and to work under pressure, and flexible enough to switch between tasks or topics seamlessly.
  • Confident enough to present in meetings, challenge people that are more senior, suggest ideas and improvements, and to reach out to unfamiliar people without first being introduced when necessary.
  • Accurate, with excellent attention to detail
  • Willingness to help out and get the job done, no matter whether its attending meetings on behalf of a manager, producing slides or taking minutes.
  • Good understanding or experience of Climate Change risk and Climate scenarios preferred.
  • Experience of German risk management regulations and regulators preferred.
  • Experience of ICAAP preferred.
