Job Description

Primary DetailsTime Type: Full time Worker Type: Employee Staff Surveyor - Marine The Opportunity: We have a Staff Surveyor role available to join our Marine team, focusing on conducting surveys, reviewing reports for assets insured or quoted and to make loss prevention and/or cover recommendations to underwriters. As part of an experienced, supportive teamthis role offers flexible working between home and our London office. The Role:

  • Contribute to and advise on the survey team plan developments and changes in order to ensure relevance, compliance and optimal delivery
  • Assist in the preparation and implementation of the operational team plans to ensure these are line with wider business strategy and reflect key priorities
  • Determine own work priorities an activities in line with agree plans to ensure the achievement of the functions objectives
  • Undertake loss prevention surveys as required, review risk assessments and relay required corrective actions to the assured and underwriters
  • Record appropriate information in the survey department database in a timely and accurate manner that will allow interrogation about survey status and risk
  • Co-ordinate and undertake, when necessary, the implementation of appropriate pre and post survey administrative procedures by the survey team
  • Identify and suggest improvements to procedures.
  • Monitor changes in the technical, legal, regulatory and commercial environment in which surveys are undertaken to ensure that this information is used to review survey department activities
  • Spend time with underwriters and claims to be familiar with their operations and systems so that recommendations to improve systems and processes can be made
  • Assist the Chief Surveyor in liaising with Underwriters to make recommendations about insured risk
  • Advise the chief surveyor and underwriters about risk on vessels/property/other assets surveyed and make recommendations as to cover restrictions or conditions where required
  • Monitor the efficiency and suitability of the loss prevention survey method and style of reporting making proposals for modifications where required
  • Provide technical assistance to the underwriting and claims staff so that they can make the best use of survey information
  • Monitor the independent surveyors that are used, or may be used to ensure that those used meet British Marine (QBE) requirements
  • Assist with the maintenance and updating of the Loss Prevention and Survey sections of the Companys website
About You:
  • International seagoing experience as a senior desk officer with an understanding of the operational environment of small to medium sized vessels, tugs and offshore craft for marine
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to build relationships across all levels of the organisation and with external clients.
  • Good reasoning capabilities, creative and lateral thinking, good problem-solving skills.
  • Deck officer qualification is required, previous survey and/or shore side management experience are preferable
