Job Description

THIS ROLE WILL REQUIRE THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE TO UNDERGO SC CLEARANCE (SC LEVEL) PRIOR TO TAKING UP THE POST. YOU MUST BE ABLE TO FULFILL THIS REQUIREMENT. MORE INFORMATION ON GOVERNMENT CLEARANCES CAN BE FOUND HERE The SQL DBA Infrastructure role sits within the Infrastructure Domain of the Delivery Division in Technology and is responsible for the support requirements around the Banks SQL estate. This role is primarily operational/support focused, involving a small element of project delivery from time to time. The successful candidate will have specialism in delivering support, maintenance, improvements, releases, and some minor project delivery in SQL Server databases.The Database Operations team consists of 7 engineers split between SQL and Oracle (including a total of two SQL DBAs in the Engineering focused side) who are responsible for the delivery of new projects across all Infrastructure disciplines throughout the Bank, on infrastructure which is maintained and supported by the Infrastructure Operations Teams (Storage, Networks, Platforms and Database Services) This role resides in the support element of the broader team.The job holder will be required to manage all aspects of the end-to-end delivery of support for all of the Banks SQL servers & databases, adhering to the relevant Bank standards and assisting projects where necessary.Candidates will have experience of administering, supporting and building SQL Server 2008 R2/2012 databases in a business-critical production environment. Experience of administering and supporting other databases, particularly Oracle and/or MySQL would be advantageous.This role is a fantastic opportunity for a DBA to join a highly motivated team, working on critical projects across the Banks databases and enhancing their skills and experience in a friendly, professional environment. Candidates will be ambitious and be able to work collaboratively within the wider Database Services team.Key responsibilities include, and are not limited to:

  • Manage all aspects of the support for SQL databases (including software installation, planning and creation of databases, working to tight deadlines for multiple support and environment improvement activities at the same time, using existing ITIL processes and working with service management functions.
  • Work closely with other teams within Infrastructure to ensure databases are configured and operating to the defined Banks standards.
  • Liaising with Solution Design and Infrastructure SMEs to understand project and BAU requirements - to ensure platforms come into support in a good position for BAU management.
  • Maintain technical and operational process documentation
  • Ongoing enhancement & development of the service provided.
  • Understand the latest technology relevant to the Bank and stay up to date with the future technologies that maybe relevant to the Bank.
  • Represent Database Services in meetings with customers, management and other technical specialists
  • Adherence to the Incident Management and Change Management process
  • ESSENTIAL COMPETENCIES:
  • A solid background of at least 3 years in database administration is required. The successful candidate will have a proven track record in both supporting and building SQL databases within a highly professional environment.
  • 3 years production SQL Server database administration on 2008R2, 2012 (Enterprise & Standard editions) and 2014
  • Maintenance of business-critical systems
  • Windows Clustering and other HADR technologies
  • Experience in administering and deploying to SSRS, SSIS and SSAS environments
  • Windows 2008/2008R2/2012 experience
  • Experience of working within a virtualised environment, including virtualised SQL servers using VMWare
  • ITIL v3 with experience working within ITIL framework
  • Request fulfilment and Change Management
  • A clear support focus with evidence of time spent performing tier 2/3 support for SQL Databases.
