Job Description

The roleThe Company in question provides casualty and specialty reinsurance products, through underwriting operations based in the US, Bermuda and the UK.Reporting to the Vice President, this position is responsible for supporting the development and maintenance of a profitable portfolio of specialty reinsurance treaties through marketing, underwriting analysis, portfolio management and servicing.To underwrite the relevant line of business within agreed business plan parameters, in line with underwriting authority, in order to achieve agreed combined ratio targets.Key accountabilities

  • Underwrite and service a growing book of specialty treaty reinsurance to include aviation, marine, energy and miscellaneous specialty classes with a focus on risk selection, coverage negotiation and pricing adequacy on new and renewable business, all in accordance with designated underwriting authorities and company guidelines.
  • Proactively engage in portfolio management to maintain compliance with underwriting objectives and corporate enterprise risk management guidelines.
  • Identify, analyse and develop sources of new business; assists in developing marketing strategies for new or improved products and services.
  • Partner with peers in other product lines to leverage market opportunities and relationships.
  • Establish and maintain superior business and service oriented partnerships with Company broker clients through regular attendance at client/broker functions and industry conferences.
  • Work closely with specialty lead underwriter in expanding knowledge base of technical underwriting matters as well as marketing and servicing techniques and approaches.
  • Maintain market intelligence, business insurance trends and industry knowledge.
    • Skills & experience
  • Have extensive experience of specialty treaty reinsurance experience required, with aviation background preferred
  • Have a track record in building and developing broker relationships
  • Demonstrate attention to detail and professionalism
  • Demonstrate a collegiate mentality
  • Demonstrate a proactive and entrepreneurial approach
  • Demonstrate IT skills including MS Office, and have the ability to develop a full understanding of in-house systems
