Scope of the JobResponsible to: All BA/MA programmes at SPAA, Lead Music Tutor, Programme Leaders and Executive DirectorResponsible for: Music provision within undergraduate and post graduate programmesWorks Closely with: Lead Dance Tutor, Lead Voice Tutor, Lead Music Tutor, and Lead Acting TutorJob PurposeThe Specialist Music Tutor is responsible for direct teaching and planning within music related activities at SPAA. The Specialist Music Tutor has a key role in delivering effective practice within the delivery of modules containing music related tuition. This role requires a skillset in which the candidate has extensive practical experience in their field but also has some experience of module delivery. The music team will work and be led succinctly alongside the other departments within the performance courses and the wider faculty at Sharjah Performing Arts Academy. The Specialist Music Tutor reports directly to the Lead Music Tutor.Duties and Responsibilities Direct teaching pertaining to all activities within the Music modules Reporting directly to Lead Music Tutor, Programme Leader - Musical Theatre, and ultimately the Executive Director With the Lead Music Tutor and further team, develop and implement all Music courses within SPAA. Safe practice will be at the forefront of practice alongside developing innovative teaching which connects with a multidisciplinary training culture Collaborating with the Lead Music Tutor and music faculty to facilitate music module assessments and provide clear constructive feedback Potentially assist with some global outreach and audition procedures to maintain high levels within student recruitment Engage and collaborate with other tutors to share and develop practice Execute classes in: One-to-one repertoire, group singing, score reading and extended projects and auditions (this is not an exhaustive list) Cultivate advanced practice within music pedagogy and singing through continued CPD May be required to undertake additional duties within the Academys programmes.Key InteractionsAs part of the SPAA team and working closely with the Lead Music Tutor to ensure our students are provided with the highest levels of teaching and learning support during their course of study. Through the departmental channels within the Academy the SPAA team will facilitate these fundamental practices ensuring courses are running effectively and efficiently for the benefit of the students and the wider arts community in Sharjah.Knowledge and ExperienceEssential: Excellent skills in music pedagogy Advanced piano / accompanying skills Excellent communication skills Ability to work with students from varying cultural backgrounds Editing scores and band parts Creating click tracks and using recording-based software for performance-based tracks Using notation software to create and edit arrangements Conducting abilities Teaching a variety of vocal pedagogy Subject specialist knowledge (musicianship, theory) Wide knowledge of Musical Theatre repertoire HE / Drama School teaching Direct industry experience Appropriate qualification at degree level or be able to demonstrate equivalent experience via industry or professional practice Ability to work independently and as a member of a multinational team Ability to work on a flexible schedule, which may include evening and some weekend work Flexible approach to working and developing the post A determined and efficient individual who is a team player ready to lead, learn and grow.Desirable: Competent in basic vocal technique skills Multi-instrumentalist Ability to run performance workshops Ability to add into a creative team for productions Potential ability to feed into other Programme disciplines within the Academy A wider understanding of professional industry practice and knowledge Masters degree in related to subject specialismCore CompetenciesDelivery through: Decision making and solving problems with the Lead Music Tutor Building teams and communication with students Facilitating changeDevelopment through: Resilience Driving resultsContextSharjah Performing Arts Academy (SPAA) is an independent Academy established by His Highness, Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Ruler of Sharjah, to address a growing demand in the UAE and MENA region for formal quality education and professional training in the performing arts sector. SPAA is the only performing arts conservatoire in the MENA region, offering quality undergraduate and graduate degree programmes taught in English. The purpose-built Academy comprises one 432 seat theatre, two fully equipped studio performance spaces, TV/recording studios, twelve sprung rehearsal studios, 12 singing tutorial spaces, resource library, gymnasium and cafe.Sharjah Performing Arts Academy specialises in training graduates for work in the international professional performing arts industry. The faculty working at SPAA are highly experienced practitioners within their respective fields. The focus of the Academy is practical rather than academic.
