Job Description

Our goal is to make it easy for innovative companies to access the tens of billions set aside by governments globally, removing the complexrules and requirements. Our first product makes claiming UK R&D tax credits a breeze.After launching our initial product 2 years ago, weve helped 400+ startups get £tens of millions back in relief. But were only just getting started! The role Were looking for someone to join our growing R&D claims team as a Software Consultant.To claim R&D tax relief, companies need to showcase, through a technical report, the technological or scientific advances they sought to achieve. As a Software Consultant, you will work with clients seeking advances in the broader fields of software engineeringand computer science to prepare these technical reports. These clients are typically UK-based start-ups, working on cutting edge projects ranging from the development of new machine learning models to the performance optimisation of video games and virtualreality environments.You can work from our office in Shoreditch, from home, or a mixture of both!Your primary responsibilities will include the following:

  • Assessing the clients activities, as collected through Claimers application, to determine whether they qualify as eligible R&D (well teach you all about the guidelines!)
  • Talking to clients CTOs, Tech Leads and Senior Developers to obtain all the details we need to present to HMRC to demonstrate that the work should classify as HMRC
  • Assist clients by handling and questions they may have around the scheme and how their work fits into it, as well as guiding them through Claimers platform.
  • Writing technical reports that are aligned with the schemes guidelines, technologically rigorous and effective in explaining the R&D activities within their broader research context.
  • In addition to this, the role will involve working with our product managers to increase the efficiency of our user facing and back-office systems, collaborating and knowledge sharing with other technical specialists in the team, as well as representingClaimer at workshops, talks, and events.
You should apply if
  • You have excellent knowledge in the field of software engineering, or closely related STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) fields. This could be through formal education, industry experience or even self-tuition.
  • Experience in writing reports for R&D tax relief claims is not required, but could be a bonus!
  • You have great attention to detail
  • You have excellent written English (Native or C2 Proficiency) and, ideally, experience in technical writing, including in an academic, industry or open-source context.
  • You have strong communication skills and can argue persuasively HMRC sometimes need convincing about our interpretation of the rules!)
  • You are a fast learner

Process and target timelines We think its helpful to share the timelines were aiming for with you but please be aware they could be affected by unforeseen circumstances such as interviewers needing to be out of office at short notice.For this role we will be assessing candidates on a rolling basis as wed like someone to start as soon as possible!We use screener questions rather than CVs in our initial stages - we realise this is a bit more work for you but we do this to reduce the potential for bias in our hiring, so we think its worthwhile. They will be blind marked by two team members, and usedto determine who is invited to a the next round.
