Job Description

Penguin Recruitment is delighted to be supporting a nationally growing team of town planning, socio-economic and design consultants providing high-quality advice and guidance on a wide range of planning and development issues!Our client advises on planning matters of all types and scales from leading and coordinating large and complex development proposals, to dealing with small-scale and householder developments.They act on behalf of major house builders and developers, manufacturers and investment companies, blue chip companies and land promoters, in addition to land and property owners, retailers, local authorities and private individuals across the United Kingdom.The team co-ordinate, project manage and audit planning applications, including EIA development, urban regeneration schemes, urban extensions, site allocation and promotions and strategic planning, housing land supply advice and commercial/retail planningexpertise. They provide expert advice and guidance to clients throughout all stages of the planning process and have considerable experience and knowledge of negotiating with local planning authorities, resolving issues, and delivering planning permissions.The company forms part of a large multi-disciplinary team which comprises lawyers, surveyors and chartered town planners. In this role, you will have access to high-quality training and support for the key business skills you need to progress your careerin planning consultancy.The role:The socio-economic team is thriving and expanding and is on the lookout for individuals with experience in socio-economic analysis - from Planner to Associate Director. This includes economic impact and benefit assessments, housing need, commercial researchand market intelligence.You will also be working on:

  • employment land supply and need assessments,
  • social infrastructure assessments,
  • economic and socio-economic impact assessment/EIA socio-economic chapters,
  • health impact assessments,
  • GIS (Geographic Information System) mapping of social, economic and market data,
  • economic benefits statements,
  • social and wellbeing benefits statements,
  • housing need.
Skills and experience you will have:
  • experience in a similar role working in local government or planning / consultancy
  • a relevant Planning qualification / MSc in Town Planning
  • a sound and demonstrable knowledge of the planning system, EIA, plan promotion
  • a broad understanding of environmental, social, economic and sustainability issues
  • a track record in either socio-economic assessment (forming part of EIA), economic impact or housing need.
  • proficiency in Microsoft packages
  • own car and full UK driving license
  • a membership of RTPI or RICS or working towards membership
  • demonstrable experience in business development and attracting new clients (for a senior level hire)
