If you believe in humane, relationship-based social work with children and families we offerthe opportunity to develop your social work career in an innovative and ambitious childrens service in one of the most beautiful parts of the country.16+ Social workers operate within the remit of the Children Act 1989; the Children (Leaving Care) Act 2000,and under the Care Planning Regulations and Transitional Arrangements for Young People Leaving Care 2011. This role works with children in care and care leavers aged 16 to 25 supporting them in practical and emotional skills in their transition to independence.Wehave three positions available - 2 x 37 hours per week and 1 x 18.5 hours per week.Cornwalls 16 + Service consists of a partnership team between the Local Authority and Carefree. We are a high performing, young person focused team operating within an OutstandingLocal Authority. We are a countywide service and together we aim to improve the life chances of young people living in and leaving Local Authority care. The team are a mix of staff - some are Social Work qualified and others have an NVQ housing or youth background.All are trained in areas relevant to Children in Care and Leaving Care. Social Workers and Personal Advisors undertake Pathway Plans and Reviews as per the Leaving Care Act 2000 and Care Planning Regs, aiming to prepare young people for the time when theycease to be looked after; thus improving the life chances of young care leavers.Close multi agency working supports young people in their transition to independence; working with agencies such as Housing, CSW, YZUP, Youth Offending Service, Benefits Agencies(DWP), Early Intervention teams, CAMHS and Adult Services where appropriate, as well as many others.You will need to be qualified with a social work degree, social work qualification (Dip.SW; BA Social Work) or equivalent, and will need to be Social Work Englandregistered. You will have extensive experience working with children and young people including children in care and/or care leavers. You will be expected to have excellent communication skills with young people; a working knowledge of the issues which effectchildren in care and care leavers; and an ability to work with young people of differing backgrounds and needs effectively in the community. Knowledge of working with Unaccompanied Asylum Seeking Children would be an advantage. You will be expected to workin partnership with a number of different agencies in order to lead on Care Planning; CIC reviews and Pathway Planning. You will be responsible for undertaking a lead statutory role for some children in care and care leavers as well as taking on lead responsibiltiesin some areas of development within the team; particularly working with partner agencies. You should have the ability to be autonomous and lone work. You should have good assessment and analytical skills which include the ability to risk assess and draw uprisk management plans. You will also work alongside Personal Advisors within the team which will involve managing your own diary and caseload.
