Job Description

Join Police Digital Service as a Service Transition ManagerAbout Police Digital ServiceWe exist to harness the power of digital, data and technology to enable UK policing to better protect the communities it serves. Ours is a team of experts in commercial services, technical assurance, data, digital transformation and innovation, with a uniqueexperience in policing and national programme delivery.The role of Transition Manager sits within the delivery function of the Police Digital Service and is responsible for the successful transition of programmes and projects into a continuous operation service. The Transition Manager will need to ensure thatsuitable service artefacts have been defined by the programme/project and that the company is able to sufficiently deliver against the service requirements and that all associated service risks have been identified and managed.Key Responsibilities

  • Establishment and hands on management of the Delivery Services Transition practice
  • Work with programmes/projects to achieve successful transition into operational service
  • Ensure the programmes/projects have created the required artefacts to enable operational service management
  • Being the subject matter expert for the professional programme transitions
  • Proactively monitoring overall transition requirements, working collaboratively to resolve issues and manage risks
  • Lead and manage the transition team
  • Working with the PMO to create and maintain management governance frameworks to ensure the sustained effectiveness of the projects & programmes
  • Work with Director of Delivery Services to establish and maintain effective relationships with other National policing bodies, forums and programmes to ensure ongoing alignment and efficiency, minimise duplication and ensure clear direction for forces
  • Gaining stakeholder support and approval for the PDS strategic vision across multiple stakeholders
  • Support the development of growth to the PDS Delivery function
  • Contribute to and ensure the delivery of the Delivery Services strategy
  • Act as an appropriate escalation point for PDS delivery services for programme related issues
  • Ensure delivery staff have effective objectives and development plan
  • Inspire Delivery staff to be innovative, creative and problem solving giving their best and most enjoyable performance
KnowledgeEssential:
  • Programme and Project management certification or substantial experience (e.g. MSP, Prince2)
  • Management qualification, or equivalent, with proven team and supplier management knowledgeto SFIA Level 6
  • Strong technical background and exposure to a wide range of technology platforms and solutions, ideally having worked in supplier relevant roles
  • Knowledge and understanding of Industry Best Practice and relevant Programme Governance Guidelines and approaches in major change initiatives
Desirable
  • Experience of law enforcement transformation projects
  • Experience of working with managed service providers
  • Experience of designing, building and embedding transition processes
  • Significant experience in project, programme and portfolio managementespecially in performance, cost control, delivery, resourcing, risk management and demand management
  • Significant experience in IT Service Management
  • Proven experience in the delivery of IT Services
  • Proven experience in the transition of programmes/projects
  • Proven experience of contract managementto ensure that such contracts are outcome driven and encourage co-operation and not confrontation
  • Demonstrate experience of leading and managing technical teams, consisting of internal, contract and supplier staff in a large complex multi-faceted organisation
  • Proven security domain knowledge in terms of the successful delivery and/or transition of internal service(s) to managed service providers and/or outsourcing environments
  • Demonstrate a track record of developing strong working relationships with a wide number of stakeholders, particularly in managing expectations across a large number of Forces as stakeholders
