Job Description

My client is an award-winning AI focused company who are looking to recruit a passionate and knowledgeable Senior Speech Applied Research Scientist who can help lead and improve their innovative speech technology. As a Speech Applied Research Scientist, you will be collaborating with data scientists and engineers to bring research into production.Requirements:

  • Strong grasp of fundamentals: linear algebra, finite state machines, discrete and continuous optimization, supervised and unsupervised methods, generative and discriminative methods.
  • PhD Degree in Computer Science or other relevant area.
  • 4 + years commercial experience within a similar role
  • Experience leading a team, providing project leadership, whilst also remaining hand-on.
  • Expertise in one or more focus areas or their subfields: acoustic modelling, language modelling, audio-visual ASR, deep learning, graphical models, search, model compression, multi-task learning, etc,
  • Extensive experience with deep learning frameworks Tensorflow, Caffe, PyTorch, Theano, etc (any of them)
  • Excellent software engineering skills with working experience in Python, C++ or Rust (at least two).
  • Proven track record of experience in relevant areas (significant industry experience and/or strong publication record at top venues like ICASSP, Interspeech, ICML, NeurIPS, …)
  • Extensive experience and understanding of speech frameworks (not the ability to run the recipes): Kaldi (both user and developer perspectives)
  • Ability to quickly prototype state-of-the-art algorithms following recent literature developments.
  • Ability to write high quality code
    • Responsibilities:
  • Work with other Speech/ML researchers to prototype speech and machine learning algorithms.
  • Adapt existing algorithms to maximise their performance for run-time deployments
  • Publish at top-tier speech conferences (ICASSP, Interspeech, ASRU, ...)
  • Design and develop state-of-the-art machine learning models
  • Advise the engineering team with development of tools for profiling, analysing and debugging
  • Advise the data engineers with efficient data collection and labelling tasks so data is useful for training of the new acoustic and language models
    • Advantageous:
  • Ability to work with large noisy datasets
  • Speech related development experience in industry
  • Proficient knowledge of Tensorflow, PyTorch or similar DL frameworks
  • Strong grasp of data structures, algorithms and communication protocols.
