What we do: (team overview) The FX Overlay technology team is responsible for developing BNY Mellons Foreign Exchange Overlay (currency hedging) platform. The team is distributed globally with the London team primarily collocated with the business. We are looking for a software engineer to work closely with the FX Overlay business to continue development on the strategic platform supporting the business growth. The successful candidate will: (role responsibilities)

• Consult with internal business groups to provide appropriate application software development services and technical support
• Provide application software development services and technical support in more complex situations. Responsible for requirement gathering and User Story refinement
• Utilize knowledge of the Software Development Life Cycle and conduct reviews of the test Plan and test Data
• Allocate and coordinate work within a team and project
• Coordinate the technical design, development, and documentation of cross-functional and multi-platform application systems
• Analyze, define, and document requirements for data, workflow, and logical processes and interface with other systems
• Ensure that the expected application performance levels are achieved by coordinating, coding, testing, implementing, and documenting
• Design and develop backend features and components
• Scale the backend architecture and codebase to support growth
• Reduce the level of technical debt of the backend codebase
• Program well-designed, testable, and efficient code
• Analyze, design, and develop tests and test-automation suites
• Develop flowcharts, layouts, and documentation to satisfy requirements and solutions
• Maintain software functionality and currency, including technical debt and gain
• Participate in code reviews
• Integrate software components into a fully functional software system
• Apply security and privacy principles
• Execute full lifecycle software development and develop software verification plans and quality assurance procedures
• Troubleshoot, debug, and upgrade existing systems
• Ensure software is updated with latest features
• Participate in deployment process following all change controls
• Provide ongoing maintenance, support, and enhancements in existing systems and platforms
• Provide recommendations for continuous improvement
• Use learning tools such as Pluralsight to complete both recommended and aspirational targets set in personal development plans
• Leverage existing products and functionality and promote reuse
• Collaborate with other engineers on the team to elevate technology and consistently apply best practices
• Collaborate cross-functionally with data engineers, business users, project managers, and other engineers to achieve elegant solutions
• Compile documentation written by more senior developers of all procedures used in system

Experience & Qualifications: (requirements for role)

• Development experience in the Financial Services sector including:
  • Utilizing technologies including Java Spring Boot to write complex business logics to perform various business functions and Rest API and Webservices to communicate between applications/services using industry standards protocols to interact and communicatebetween the services;
  • Utilizing knowledge of databases including SQL Server and Oracle for persisting the transactional data and using SQL, Linq to Sql to perform read, write operations on the persisted data;
  • Utilizing Business Objects, Jasper Reports, XML with XSLT for creating and executing reports which are used by the business to report the regular business activities such as business calculation, Trade details and various Key Performance indicator reportsthereby providing the end users with data to make informed decisions;
  • Using knowledge of vendor Applications including Xceptor to parse the incoming client data in formats including Excel, PDF, CSV, Word to a unified way so that the same can be sent to the application to carry out the necessary business activities based onthe incoming data;
  • Using the FX Overlay business and currency hedging to understand the business requirements and translate the same into development to build and enhance the application to solve the business problems;
  • Utilizing with DevOps continuous integration;
  • Working with Agile practices.
