Job Description

Role: Senior Software Engineer, Product InnovationLocation: London (remote Cov19)Salary: £51k to £61kJob Purpose: Senior Software EngineerThe Senior Software Engineer supports Tech Lab and the Product Innovation Department to use technology to answer business questions and solve problems across SAGE. This position is responsible for building prototypes and proof-of-concepts to facilitate evaluation of new services and products.About the company: Senior Software Engineer

  • This role sits within Tech Lab, a small team who collaborate with people across SAGE to answer business questions and solve problems. Our work focuses on rapidly prototyping and validating solutions using data science and technology.
    • Responsibilities: Senior Software Engineer
  • Rapidly evaluate new and emerging technologies through the building of prototypes and proofs of concept. This will include taking a model from our Data Scientist and turning it into a useable software tools for the business.
  • Gather feedback on prototypes, including their overall effectiveness, potential use cases, and other applicability information.
  • Disseminate lessons learnt about these prototypes and experiments
  • Help identify new technologies and product ideas for prototyping, and assess feasibility of ideas before development
  • Help manage and prioritise the idea backlog
  • For technologies that we dont have in-house skills to evaluate, find appropriate partners to work with
    • Skills and Experience: Senior Software Engineer•An experienced full stack developer who can work at pace•Extensive experience developing software products and services, including frontend and backend development in a variety of languages and web technologies•Experience of designing, building, and using RESTful APIs and microservices•Experience of working on data science projects•Experience of putting machine learning models into production•Proficiency in Python or willingness to learn Python•Experience working in on-premises and cloud-based environments. Azure would be beneficial•Experience of working with traditional RDBMS and NoSQL databases•Know your way around Linux, Docker, Git well enough to install and configure open source software
  • A good problem solver who can use their technical knowhow to turn ideas into working prototypes
  • Keen to help the company use machine learning and automation to work more efficiently
  • Able to determine the feasibility of a proposed solution, advise how much it will cost and how long it will take to build
  • A good communicator who can explain technical concepts to a nontechnical audience
  • Enjoy a high degree of responsibility and independence
  • Comfortable with the challenge of working on a diverse range of products, systems and solutions
