People who seize the experiences available to transform their world - and the world around them.Job DescriptionJoin our Safety Risk Management (SRM) team as a Senior Consultant and we’ll make sure you get the experience, challenges, and support you need to take your career as far as you want it to go.You will principally be required to undertake system safety and reliability analyses and risk assessment activities associated with the design of mainline and metro railway schemes. We’ve been applying our expertise to rail networks around the world for over a century. Whilst our projects will be predominantly in the rail sector, you will also have the opportunity to apply your capabilities to creating innovative solutions in other transport, energy, industrial and manufacturing sectors.As part of your role you will provide safety and reliability analyses and risk assessment activities across a range of industry sectors and coach junior members of staff.Typical activities include:

  • Operating as the safety and/or reliability assurance technical lead on a variety of mission-critical projects
  • Chairing Hazard Identification (HAZID) and Hazard and Operability (HAZOP) workshops
  • Review and quality-assure SRM project outputs (e.g. documentation, reports, specifications) to ensure that they meet or exceed client expectations and Arcadis requirements and comply with national standards and codes of practice
  • Developing and managing project hazard records / logs
  • Undertaking Failure Modes Effects and Criticality Analysis (FMECA)
  • Fault Tree Analysis / Event Tree Analysis
  • Developing Engineering Safety arguments and justifications in support of design changes
  • Undertaking Reliability Assessments (typically using Reliability Block Diagrams)
  • Preparing/contributing to safety assurance documentation: Safety Plans, Safety Cases, Hazard Reports, System Definitions,
  • Preparing/contributing to safety assurance documentation: Reliability Availability and Maintainability (RAM) Plans, RAM Analyses and other reliability assurance documentation
  • Performing Quantitative Risk Analysis (QRA), consequence analysis and/or dispersion modelling
  • Requirements
  • Experienced as a Senior System Safety and Reliability / Risk Engineer with the rail sector
  • Knowledge of Engineering Safety Management and experience of applying the Common Safety Method (CSM), Railways and Other Guided Transport Systems (Safety) Regulations 2006 (ROGS) and BS EN50126, 50128 and 50129 for RAM
  • Working knowledge and able to develop safety risk and reliability models using Reliability Block Diagrams, Fault Trees and Event Trees
  • Performing Quantitative Risk Analysis (QRA) using a variety of techniques
  • Undertake HAZIDs/ HAZOPs and develop Safety Cases
  • Must be proactive, solution orientated and be able to utilise experience, knowledge and skills to carry out bespoke risk assessments
  • Desired: Charted Engineer status with a professional body
  • Desired: Ability to read electrical schematic block diagrams and engineering drawings
  • Desired: Use of the Isograph Reliability Workbench or similar software applications
  • Desired: Experience of working across more than one mission-critical industry, e.g. Rail, Energy, Process Industry (incl. Oil & Gas), Aerospace & Defence.
  • Desired: Experience delivering consequence analysis and/or dispersion modelling
