Job Description

Our client is a leading, world renowned Global Commodity trading company. This position requires the individual to lead the coverage of Freight trading books. The role encompasses a large number of responsibilities, which include but may not be limited to production and explain of P&L and exposures, cargo valuation and daily pricing,daily hedging of complex physical transactions as well as Market Risk supervision!The role itself sits directly on the Trading Desk, so you will enjoy working alongside the Freight trading team where you will learn from, and develop strong relationships with, a very successful trading team.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead coverage of the Freight books from a product control perspective:
    • Ensure accurate and timely review of physical and derivatives trades entered in the reporting systems.
    • Responsible for calculating and running daily risk reports, including P&L explain for both physical and speculative books.
    • Propose daily hedging requirement of complex physical transactions to the traders.
    • Assisting in the development of new and existing systems, processes, and reports to be in line with the UK corporate reforms.
    • Create adequate forward curves used by the freight desk, and other desks.
    • Communicate results effectively with traders and senior risk management.
  • Develop and monitor the market risk framework of the desk.
    • Participate in the creation of a suite of risk limits (volumetric, VaR etc.)
    • Build adequate Stress Tests.
  • Proactively identify and communicate issues to the senior risk management
  • Work closely with other groups, most notable Trading and Operations.
  • Any other ad hoc duties that may be required from time to time with traders and charterers.
    • Define proxy hedges
    • Quantify risk for potential new trades.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
  • Previous work-based experience in Market Risk or similar function; within a bank, commodity trading company or similar.
  • Educated to degree level at 2.1 or above (or similar) in a numerate discipline (Maths, economics, Science etc.)
  • Understanding of Market Risk concepts is a must.
  • Coding skills in VBA, Python, advantageous.
  • Excellent communication skillsmust be able to understand others perspectives and relate complex ideas to different groups, including senior management
  • Commodity experience, specifically Oil and/o Gas would be advantageous, but is not essential.
  • Highly numerate, with good problem-solving and analytical skills
  • The ability to challenge proposals constructively to help ensure they are robust, whilst maintaining excellent working relationships
  • Must be able to work effectively in a team, flexibly handling a wide range of potential issues
  • Must be capable of working with significant autonomy and ensuring analysis is focused on delivering practical business benefits, often in tight deadlines
