Job Description

Work with the Public Affairs Manager to develop and deliver the charities programme of public affairs activity.Work with the Policy and Campaigns Team to achieve the charities strategic objectives.Client DetailsThis charity focuses on improving access to care, research and campaigning for those people living with or affected by a disease in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.Description

  • Work with the Public Affairs Manager to identify public affairs priorities and proactively identify opportunities to influence party political debates, legislation and select committees.
  • Ensure a coordinated approach to parliamentary work at Westminster and locally.
  • Support on the development and delivery of the All-Party Parliamentary Group work programme.
  • Work with the Policy Team to identify opportunities to take forward policy priorities through public affairs activity and brief parliamentarians for meetings and debates.
  • Draft correspondence and briefings for parliamentarians.
  • Support submissions to parliamentary inquiries (e.g. Select Committees).
  • Identify and develop effective links with key parliamentarians, influencers and decision makers whose remit may impact the sphere of work, including, senior civil servants etc.
  • To represent the charity on public affairs coalitions as required.
  • To help plan and deliver the charities activities at the political party conferences.
  • To support campaigning volunteers engagement with local decision makers.
  • To support the delivery of campaigning events.
  • To assist in managing the political monitoring company.
  • To provide public affairs support to regional staff and volunteers to support local campaigning and influencing work.
ProfileThe Senior Public Affairs Adviser will be expected to have:
  • A thorough understanding of parliamentary processes and procedures.
  • Demonstrable public affairs experience within a voluntary organisation.
  • Experience of working with Parliamentarians in Westminster and/or in Parliament.
  • Experience of supporting volunteers in public affairs activities.
  • Experience of planning and co-ordinating events.
  • Good team player and networker.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Digitally literate, including database management and using social media for public affairs purposes.
