Job Description

A sustainability focused biotech company has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Product Development Scientist to join its team. Your role will be to lead new areas of R&D (adsorbent material design), consulting with cross-functional groups and providingtechnical leadership to junior colleagues.This role will suit an analytical-minded R&D Scientist, who can think outside of the box to create solutions to complex innovation concepts. A PhD level qualification is required, coupled with significant experience working in a synthetic chemistry laboratory.Senior Product Development Scientist responsibilities

  • Leverage your experience and knowledge along with information from a range of sources (literature, conferences, workshops etc.) to propose and initiate creative new areas of R&D in innovative adsorbent material design for step changes in performance.
  • Suggest and implement new methods and analytical techniques where appropriate.
  • Identification of robust process-structure-property-performance relationships through analysis and interpretation of data from a wide range of sources (analytical, performance data etc.) to guide future adsorbent material design.
  • Failure mode analysis - troubleshoot reactions and protocols, modifying parameters and synthetic routes; ensuring a systematic approach is applied to develop an understanding of why the materials fail to guide the design of improved adsorbent materials.
  • Synthesis and purification of novel adsorbent material products (g to 100 g scale).
  • Advanced analysis of data from a wide range of sources (analytical, performance data, elemental analyses etc) to guide future adsorbent material design.
  • Collect and process experimental data, analyse results and compile experimental results in the appropriate formats (Word, PowerPoint) for wider dissemination.
Senior Product Development Scientist requirements
  • A PhD level qualification in Chemistry, Materials Science or closely related.
  • Significant experience working within a synthetic chemistry laboratory.
  • Experience of technically leading customer-focused projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • A strong practical understanding of material characterisation and analytical techniques, e.g., PSD, NMR, FTIR, SEM, XPS, TGA-DSC, elemental analysis.
  • Ability to work well independently and within a cross-functional team.
