Job Description

Job Title: Senior Process EngineerCompany: Plastic Energy LimitedLocation: LondonStart Date: As soon as possibleOverview:Plastic Energy is at the forefront of converting non-recyclable "End-of-Life" plastics waste into high grade oils for making clean recycled plastics, or alternative low-carbon fuels. Our company mission is to play a significant role in solving the global plastic problem, and to be world leaders in chemical recycling.We promote the concept of a Circular Economy of plastics, and we use a patented Thermal Anaerobic Conversion (TAC) technology to convert end-of-life and valueless plastics into a product known as TACOIL, which chemical/petrochemical companies can transform back into food-grade recycled plastics.Plastic Energy has established offices in London and Madrid, and regional offices in Singapore and Malaysia. We currently own two chemical recycling plants in Spain operating at commercial scale, have three projects underway in Western Europe, and new developments defined in South East Asia.We are now seeking a high calibre and technically-minded Senior Process Engineer who has a strong interest in the alternative energy sector to join our London office team of around forty people (near St Paul’s). The post holder will be joining at an exciting stage in our company’s development and will play a key and trusted role in our engineering department, contributing to the successful delivery our current and forthcoming projects, as well as research and development. The role reports to the overall Engineering Manager.For a candidate who advocates sustainability and would enjoy having meaningful input into an emerging sector, this is a demanding and exciting position.Role and ResponsibilitiesYou will:

  • Act in a senior capacity within the Process Engineering department. This role has the potential to become a Principal Engineer, and/or to lead and manage the small process team.
  • Participate in the development and delivery of process engineering turn-key projects, plant and R&D process engineering specifications and deliverables (mass & energy balance, process descriptions, PFD’s, P&IDs, control philosophies, datasheets, pipework, equipment and safety system sizing calculations etc).
  • Be responsible for the design of process works.
  • Maintain the required technical quality of work.
  • Maintain planning and cost control on process scope of works.
  • Participate actively in the business’s technology R&D as a key process engineering stakeholder.
  • Implement technology research findings.
  • Ensure that designs comply with the relevant Codes, Standards, Regulations and Procedures.
  • Liaise with sub-contractors and vendors to develop, deliver and troubleshoot solutions for the technology.
  • Liaise with project management teams to deliver new projects.
  • Define and lead optimisation activities at operational facilities.
  • Work closely with the other engineering disciplines to overcome difficulties and find the best approach for the solution.
  • Give support to commissioning and operations team remotely and on-site.
  • Produce process documentation from scratch.
  • Train new operators.
  • Ensure tracking of electrical changes on site and that documentation is kept updated constantly.
  • Ensure design files are kept up-to-date for both new and existing operational facilities.
  • Person Specification
  • Chartered (highly desirable) or Incorporated with the Institute of Chemical Engineers.
  • Working knowledge of COMAH, COSHH, DSEAR, ATEX 95, ATEX 137, API520, Hazard Studies and LOPA required as a minimum.
  • Experience with using API, ANSI, ISO and NORSOK standards to design and specify process equipment.
  • Advanced user of Aspen HYSYS.
  • Advanced understanding of thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid dynamics and distillation principles.
  • The role would suit a candidate with at least ten years working experience, with at least five of those years designing onshore oil and gas installations, combined with onsite commissioning or operational experience.
  • Analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Enthusiasm and aptitude to be part of a growing team, with the ambition and capability to take on a leadership role.
  • Strong line management and/or mentoring experience.
  • The ability to progress with several different tasks simultaneously and deliver to schedule.
  • Excellent maths and IT skills.
  • An effective communicator with an excellent standard of oral and written English.
  • Sense of adventure, drive and a self-motivator.
  • Background and/or interest in alternative energy technology.
  • An excellent ability to work with Microsoft Office including MS Visio and Projects.
  • Ability to travel if required.
