Job Description

Senior Network Development (NetDev) EngineerA global powerhouse in the mobile satellite communications industry are looking for an Senior Network Development (NetDev) Engineer to join their team in London on a permanent basis - The role will be onboarded remotely, however candidates must be based within commutable distance to London.They have invested and innovated their high-speed global ground network - A critical part of the investment includes expanding their global software-defined network (SDN) and the use of Networks Function Virtualisation (NFV), as they migrate and automate the majority of their network functions onto their cloud platforms.The Senior Network Development (NetDev) Engineer will be a hybrid software and network engineer, who will inject network automation capabilities into their ground networks, by running proof of concept evaluations, and by driving the delivery of their combined core network, cloud/NFV and SDN solutions successfully into operations. The candidate will be integral to building the next generation of networks for network optimisation, mobility and growth to scale over the next decade and beyond.The role demands a strong technical acumen, hands-on skills, stakeholder engagement, and an appetite for potential global travel to our ground stations and data centres throughout the world.Essential Knowledge and Skills:

  • Strong experience working in a relevant communications, network infrastructure or related computing infrastructure field
  • Professional experience and/or qualifications in the technology areas below;
  • Cloud computing & Virtualization (OpenStack, Kubernetes)
  • Carrier IP networking (BGP, MPLS, etc)
  • APIs and management protocols (REST, NETCONF, gRPC)
  • Working knowledge of SDN and NFV (ODL, ONOS, OpenFlow, P4)
  • Virtualization (KVM/libvirt)
  • Lab management (racking, cabling, IPAM, bare metal automation, etc)
  • SDN controller, application and integration development (Java, Go, web UI languages)
  • Network Management Protocols e.g. Netconf/Yang, REST, gRPC
  • Python and bash scripting skills
  • Design, configuration and testing of systems using the above systems and protocols
  • Strong Linux administration skills
  • Ability to matrix-manage a diverse set of colleagues as a project moves through the various stages of investigation, business case development, architectural development, implementation, improvement and retirement
  • You will be able to fully engage, challenge and debate technical solutions with the Subject Matter Experts, both internal and external
  • Excellent self and team awareness skills to guide interactions to the most positive outcomes
  • Able to drive an ad-hoc team to the correct conclusions, even if individual members arrive with pre-conceived notions contrary to that conclusion
  • Creative thinker and problem solver, willing to keep options open for as long as productive analysis is occurring, within timelines appropriate for the needs of the business
  • Articulate and engaging written and presentation skills are considered gating criteria
  • Bachelors Degree or equivalent
    • Desirable Knowledge and Skills:
  • Knowledgeable in the architecture and standards of 3G, 4G and 5G EPC, IMS
  • Ability to developSDN applications orintegrations with client systems, on top of open sourceSDN controllers such asONOS andOpenDaylight (based in Java, Go, web-basedUI frameworks).
  • E.g. develop a simple application on top of an SDN controller NorthBound API to consume network data (e.g. topology)
  • E.g. develop a simple P4 pipeline to be deployed on Barefoot Tofino programmable ASIC
