This Senior Legal Counsel role is part of a team of lawyers who support HSBC UK Commercial Banking (CMB) customer transactions. The lawyersprovide legal advice, guidance and support to ensure that HSBC Groups exposure to legal risk is managed and this role will have an infrastructure and Large Corporates-led focus. The role holder will be part of the Global Legal Function.HSBC UK Legal plays an important role in protecting the Groups reputation by helping to future-proof the organisation through the provision of robust and comprehensive legal advice to senior management, business lines and functions. This role will be basedat 8 Canada Square, London (HSBC Global Headquarters) and a number of the UK Legal team are also based in Birmingham (HSBC UK Headquarters). We offer a flexible working environment from our HSBC offices and remotely on a hybrid basis.Your responsibilities will include:

  • Being part of a team of lawyers who support commercial banking transactions with a particular focus on delivering practical legal advice and proactive transactional deal support;
  • Being a trusted adviser to the business by ensuring that commercially sensitive legal advice is provided. This will include discussions on lending, security, guarantees, restructuring and priority;
  • Assisting the business so they remain compliant with internal legal risk management requirements;
  • Ensuring senior legal management is fully briefed on any major issues arising;
  • Sharing legal knowledge and best practices through keeping up to date with relevant regulatory and legal developments;
  • Maintaining and developing positive and professional relationships with the CMB UK Legal Team and all key stakeholders.
RequirementsThe ideal candidate for this role will be / have:
  • A senior level qualified solicitor with relevant mid-market experience gained within a financial institution and/or top tier private practice. A secondment from private practice at a financial institution would be an advantage;
  • Knowledge and experience of banking and corporate law (including infrastructure and/or project finance), including in the context of the Loan Market Association precedents, is essential;
  • An understanding of debt finance documentation including term sheets, loan facilities, intercreditor and ancillary documentation for cross-border transactions;
  • Excellent spoken and written communication skills with experience of adapting style and approach to the audience is essential;
  • The ability to think independently being mindful of maintaining an appropriate balance between management and mitigation of legal risk and business efficacy;
  • Experience of making prompt decisions and taking responsibility for the outcomes.
