Job Description

The London Diocesan Fund (LDF) has an exciting opportunity for a diligent person who, as well as having a high level of governance skills and understanding, has a passion for giving proactive support, and is capable of building and sustaining relationshipsin our unique not-for-profit setting where ecclesiastical, charity and company regulations come together. You will join a small governance team of two in the role of Senior Governance Officer, based at our head office in Pimlico. For the right individual,this position offers the potential of a career development opportunity.About the LDFThe London Diocesan Fund (LDF) is one of the largest charities in the UK and is the administrative centre of the part of the Church of England that makes up the Diocese of London. The Diocese of London is the group of Church of England organisations locatedin North London and comprises 400+ parishes north of the River Thames and within the M25 motorway, as well as schools, chaplaincies, missional communities, and other organisations.What we offer

About the roleAs part of our 2030 Vision, maintaining a high level of governance is critical in enabling the delivery of our vision and our commitment to do all that we can to support mission and ministry within the Diocese of London.The scope of the work of the Governance department covers meetings, elections, constitutional and compliance matters, advising, and matters relating to membership of governance bodies. Some of these areas, as well as operating at Board, i.e. diocesan level,also operate at Area level, which is the next level down; at deanery (similar to borough) level, at parish level, and also at times at national level in the context of national church governance.The purpose of the Senior Governance Officer (SGO) role is to provide broad support to the work of the department alongside the Head of Governance whilst being specifically responsible for various areas of the departments work, most significantly, the efficientmanagement of Area Councils and associated governance operations. This involves being Secretary to the Area Councils, running the Councils elections and by-elections, dealing with the Area Council constitutions and any amendments. More widely across the department,the role involves managing the membership and electorates of the main governance bodies, and various areas of compliance in the work of the department.The SGO will provide governance support and advice to staff and officers at all levels of governance, which will require sufficient knowledge and understanding of the legislation and other regulations which are central to the work of the department. TheSGO will have the competency and be able to keep sufficiently abreast of the work of the department to be able to stand in as deputy for the Head of Governance should the need arise.Closing date: 24th Jan 2023Salary: c £40,000
