Job Description

Merrifield Consultants are delighted to be working with this large Medical membership body to recruit a Senior Governance Officer.We are looking for an experienced Senior Governance officer who will support Governance Managers and the wider team in delivering high-quality and effective support to College committees: organising meetings, drafting agendas, co-ordinating papers, takingaction notes/minutes of meetings, and tracking/monitoring actions.Job Title: Senior Governance OfficerPermanent - Full timeSalary: £34,890 per annumLocation: Central London - HybridResponsibilities:

  • Act as Governance Officer for sub-committees of Trustee Board and Council as required including: working with committee Chairs to organise meetings and agree agendas; co-ordinate circulation of papers in good time; take action notes and / or minutes; monitoractions and co-ordinate responses with action owners.
  • Take specific responsibility for administrative arrangements for the Committee of Medical Ethics and Fellowships & Awards Committee sub-committees of Council and Planning and Resources sub-committee of Trustee Board
  • Act as Governance Officer for ad hoc Short Life Working Groups as required
  • Co-ordinate recruitment processes for committee vacancies. Liaising with committee chairs and the lead Governance Manager on the job description, advertisement arrangements and appointment process (including Conflict of Interest record keeping). Maintaina forward schedule of committee vacancies.
  • Co-ordinate induction and training for new Council and Committee members working with Governance team members to ensure induction material and events are timely, high quality and meet the needs of new members.
  • Provide support in the delivery of College elections to include the creation, circulation and checking of documentation, communications and online publications and answering queries.
  • To develop the annual governance calendar, set up all key governance committee meetings and support the set-up arrangements for all Council, Trustee Board and General Meetings.
  • Attendance at Council and General Meetings to support the Governance Managers in delivering these events. Note that two Council meetings take place on a Saturday, for which TOIL is available.
  • Publication and website lead for the team - proof reading key documents and arranging publication and update of the websites governance pages.
  • First point of contact for general governance enquiries from Council members and management of Governance team inboxes.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREDExperience
  • Organising, co-ordinating and managing formal meetings
  • Working to deadlines / under pressure
Knowledge / Skills / Attributes
  • Proven skills in drafting and presenting written material - including agenda, minutes, and reports.
  • Proven ability to deal efficiently and effectively with correspondence and queries
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Proven ability to work on own initiative, manage competing demands, prioritise workload and meet tight deadlines
  • Ability to develop good working relationships with colleagues, and to work flexibly in a team
  • Ability and willingness to take on new challenges and tasks
