Job Description

Third Square are delighted to be partnering with one of our favourite clients within the Insurance industry to help hire a new Senior Financial Accountant.Purpose of the jobTo provide technical knowledge, advice and expertise to the business on all areas of Financial Accounting to the business and to actively drive the group’s accounting policy work, including the implementation of new accounting standards.Principal Accountabilities:

  • To own the quarterly group consolidation process, as required for quarterly reporting purposes.
  • To support the Group consolidation process
  • To act as the entity accounting owner , managing the general ledgers of these companies including review and agreement of income and expense postings and intercompany balances, review of submissions from 3rd party administrators (where relevant), and preparation of ad-hoc analysis where required.
  • To provide technical advice and support to other finance staff as required in respect of accounting for
  • To prepare annual financial statements of group and various individual company financial statements.
  • To perform technical reviews of various annual financial statements,
  • To act as a primary point of contact for liaison with auditors
  • To support the Group Financial Controller with the preparation of the quarterly President’s Report.
  • To consider and enhance the financial reporting processes for the various entities. Accounting policy and implementation:
  • To contribute to the research of any new accounting standards (IFRS and UK GAAP) and implementation of the necessary changes on the groups and / or individual companies.
  • To research any technical accounting issues as may be required, including supporting and advising on the accounting implications of the groups initiatives on other teams.
  • In addition, the individual will also contribute to Group reporting:
  • To support the process of preparing the Group half year report and the Group’s annual consolidated financial statements.
  • To contribute to the quarterly consolidation and group reporting submissions where required.
  • To develop or maintain procedures manuals for your areas of responsibility, including review of procedure documentation prepared by any direct reports.
  • General ledger maintenance, inputting accurate information onto Great Plains system.
  • Involvement in ad hoc projects where necessary, including leading them where appropriate.
  • To provide support to the Head of Group Financial Accounting and Group Financial Controller as necessary.
  • Decision Making Responsibilities:
  • Accounting decisions as required by the position (material items to be referred to Head of Group Financial Accounting and Group Financial Controller) including Interpretation of IFRS, UK GAAP and all company accounting legislation.
  • Education, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
  • Qualified Accountant with significant post-qualification experience
  • Track record of delivering a high-quality product to tight deadlines.
  • Good technical knowledge and practical experience interpreting and applying International Financial Reporting Standards and UK GAAP.
  • Experience in producing group consolidated and individual statutory financial statements.
  • Experience of accounting for, or auditing of, insurance companies and structured vehicles
  • Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office, and an advanced Excel user.
  • Experience of using and developing general ledger and consolidation packages is advantageous.
  • Knowledge of general, commercial insurance industry practices and policies.
  • Ability to adapt to changing requirements and work within a team.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Effective prioritisation and organisational skills.
  • Advanced numeric and analytical skills, with good attention to detail.
  • Well-developed report writing skills.Clear understanding of financial controls.
