Job Description

Senior Director - Emerging Markets Chief Economist, S&P Global Ratings The Team: The emerging markets (EM) economics team provides key inputs into the ratings practices in the form of quarterly forecasts, scenarios, narratives, and general analysis. It focuses on about two dozen economies that are systemic or importantto our business (other EM and lower-income economies are forecast by our sovereign ratings team). The team interacts regularly with market participants: investors, issuers, regulators and central banks, media. The team thrives on developing accurate forecastsand prognoses, top-tier insights, clear and crisp communication, and complete independence of view while working closely with the EM credit research team. The Impact: The purpose of this position is to provide oversight, strategic direction, and market-leading research on EM economics. The chief economist will be responsible for conducting in-depth analysis on a small number of EM economies and overseeing/guidingthe macro work on other EM economies and influencing the work of our EM credit research team. Responsibilities:
  • Primary public spokesperson/thought leader in EM on macroeconomic issues, including mainstream media and the conference circuit
  • Leads the economic research agenda for the EM economies
  • Works closely with senior credit analysts in EM economies to tell the macro-credit story
  • Leads the EM economist team in forecasting macro baseline and risk scenarios for the 1,600 analysts working in the Ratings division of S&P Global
  • Supports other S&P Global divisions when their work intersects with macroeconomics and finance, including appearing in events as a keynote speaker or panelist
  • Part of the economics leadership team; reports to the Global Chief Economist of S&P Ratings
What were looking for:
  • A top-tier economist with broad-based experience to lead the research and analysis of economic and financial trends and developments in key EM economies
  • Prepare written reports and blogs for publication on economic and market trends in economies under coverage
  • Prepare, maintain, and update PowerPoint and other presentations for internal and external use, including helping to prepare inputs to our flagship Credit Conditions Committee
  • Build our brand by developing relationships with thought leaders and officials in those countries under coverage (central banks, national statistical offices, academic researchers)
  • Leverage relationships with tier-1 media in countries where posted and under coverage to give S&P Ratings economic views high visibility
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Extensive experience (at least 10-12 years) as a professional economist in a combination of roles in the private financial sector, central banking, and international organizations
  • Advanced degree (preferably a PhD) in economics from a top-tier university
  • Excellent public speaking skills/track record and strong communication skills
  • Excellent collaboration skills as the role demands working across functions and geographies
  • Willingness to travel and manage work across several time zones
The Location: New York, NY, or London, UK.Compensation/Benefits Information (This section is only applicable to US candidates): S&P Global states that the anticipated base salary range for this position is $152,600 - $303,575. Final base salary for this role will be based on the individuals geographic location, as well as experience level, skill set, training, licenses, and certifications.
