Job Description

Senior DBA SummaryMy client, a leading UK/US FInTech SaaS solutions company is looking for an experienced DBA who can work in a small team to deliver a secure, highly scalable solution to an exacting set of requirements.Experience of managing production MySQL (MariaDB) databases is essential, while knowledge and experience of working with MongoDB would be seen as highly advantageous.Responsibilities and DutiesWhat You Will Be Doing

  • Assuring availability, optimising efficiency and promoting usability of multi-tenant enterprise OLTP database servers
  • Working closely with operations and development teams to ensure database solutions meet all needs and requirements
  • Managing and monitoring existing database topology
  • Analysing and optimising database configurations
  • Analysing data-structures, queries and procedures, ensuring they are efficient and performant.
  • Working with application developers to resolve issues that degrade performance
  • Ensuring effective access controls (PCI Compliant) are implemented and maintained
  • Analysing and monitoring storage requirements and data-retention strategies
  • Capacity planning to monitor and accommodate growth
  • Designing and implementing database-resiliency and disaster-recovery solutions
  • Reacting to production outages and working as part of a team to resolve service-outages
  • Ensuring that RTO and RPO objectives can be met
What You Need for this Position
  • 5 or more years experience in monitoring the performance and scalability of a large muti-schema MariaDB (MySql) database servers and replication slaves
  • 5 or more years experience in tuning the configuration of MariaDB (MySql) database servers with the InnoDB storage engine for performance and scalability
  • 5 or more years experience in identifying queries and stored procedures that perform below expected tolerances and finding root cause and solutions to resolve performance
  • 5 or more years experience monitoring, configuring, and managing MariaDB (MySQL) replication
  • 5 or more years experience with database security compliance with PCI, HIPAA or similar standards

Required Competency
  • Database server performance management with the optimization of resource usage to maximize throughput and minimize contention, enabling the largest possible workload to be processed for OLTP transactions over multiple schemas
  • Ensuring database availability such that the DBMS and its resources are up and available as needed 24x7x365 by the applications and their users
  • Ensuring Recovery processes are in place and functional as needed to meet required RTO and RPO objectives
  • Configuring database access to securely limit access according to well-known standards such as OWASP, PCI, and NIST
Optional Competency
  • Experience working on an agile development team
