Job Description

Our client is a growing, innovative Challenger Bank with a strong appetite to lend supported by an existing geographic footprint, competitive product offering & growing lending book. As part of the next stage of their growth journey they are looking fora Senior Credit Risk Managerwith strong Credit Risk experience, ideally across a range of products inc Asset Finance, Invoice Finance, ABL, Real Estate and Wholesale/Block Lending.Purpose of the Senior Credit Risk Manager:

  • To line manage the Credit Manager(s) and deputise for the Head of Credit Risk when needed.
  • Responsibility for the maintenance of the Credit Risk Management Framework. Ensuring divisional adherence with Group Credit Policies via process and procedures (writing, training, embedding) both in Risk and across origination & portfolio teams.
  • Management of Credit Asset Class and Lending Policies for all BF products. First point of contact for sub-division MDs regarding amendments / enhancements.
  • Operationalise credit quality improvements regarding new business credit proposals from Origination teams to 2LOD Group Credit. This includes QA outputs and lessons learned from non-performing cases.
  • Responsible for scoping, coordinating and presenting thematic / product portfolio reviews and proposing enhancements to MI, divisional reporting and the management of data.
  • To act as Credit SME to, or lead on, divisional and group projects, reviews and initiatives e.g. auto decisioning, platform enhancements, new/existing product reviews.
  • Assess and contribute credit appetite opinion on customer credit proposals at Deal Forum (no sanctioning authority).
Key responsibilities of the Senior Credit Risk Manager:
  • Manage, motivate and ensure the development of the Credit Manager(s)
  • Enhance, embed and maintain the Credit Risk Management Framework and Strategy, coordinating ongoing support and training to wider teams both at origination and in-life. Ensure subsidiary frameworks, policies and processes are complete.
  • Oversight the Credit Managers in their role as primary Risk reviewer of proposed changes to 1LOD Credit policies (Asset Class and Lending).
  • Oversee the Group Risk Policy Gap Analysis rolling programme to ensure adherence across the business. Negotiation of dispensations / waivers as needed and work with other teams to plan to close gaps. Provide feedback and proposed solutions with respectto procedures, policies and guidelines both proactively and to remedy issues raised.
  • To manage and proactively improve the quality of 1LOD credit submissions. This includes facilitating training and/or coaching, developing process and system enhancements, initiating, reviewing and expanding on quality assurance exercises, contributing todivisional projects.
  • To assist the Head of Credit Risk and Credit MI team in continuing to enhance the suite of management information suitable to assist in running the business. This includes deep dive portfolio or thematic reviews and presenting / delivering information orreports to committee audiences. Development of a Portfolio Quality Review framework to identify credit hot spots (good or bad).
  • To work closely with 1LOD Risk Management Team with regard to other Credit monitoring activities
  • To oversee 1LOD credit qualitative assurance outputs
  • Co-ordinate with 2LOD and 3LOD QA / Audit teams to ensure that BF is prepared for upcoming reviews.
  • Contribute as an active member of Divisional Deal Forums. Act as Credit representative to other sub-divisional deal forums / appetite forums.
  • Support the Head of Credit Risk team in providing support, education and training to staff on credit related issues.
Accountabilities of the Senior Credit Risk Manager:Reporting to the Head of Credit Risk, Business Finance RiskPrincipal interfaces will be with the 1LOD Risk teams, 1LOD Origination MDs and teams, 2LOD Credit and 2LOD / 3LOD Risk teams.Other key relationships/interfaces:
  • Risk MI and Analytics team
  • Data and Projects teams
  • 1st, 2nd and 3rd Line QA teams
  • Management committees.
  • Compliance function.
  • Central Ops Risk Function
Skills & Experience of the Senior Credit Risk Manager
  • Degree level qualification preferably economics, business or finance-based degrees.
  • An understanding of credit risk related concepts
  • At least 10 years experience in commercial banking preferred. Ideally both SME and bigger corporate with experience in a central credit function
  • Strong experience in various SME products - ideally covering Asset Finance, ABL, Development Finance, Wholesale / Block Finance, Leverage lending
  • Ideally, experience in credit policy drafting
  • People management experience - ideally including management of remote workers.
  • Sound knowledge of Credit including policy gap analysis.
  • Good Understanding of risk and risk-related concepts
  • Ability to translate findings into constructive solutions
  • Be familiar with key risk indicators, linking these to risks and controls
  • Ability to produce meaningful, concise reports at committee level.
  • High level of Computer proficiency (good knowledge of MS Office suite - Excel, Word, Power-Point, with relevant analytical software)
  • Excellent presentation skills with both internal and external parties.
