Job Description

Fantastic opportunity for a senior commercial lawyer with substantial intellectual property and data protection experience to join the London office of a global investment manager.My client, a global investment manager, is looking to hire a commercial lawyer who has substantial experience advising on general commercial, intellectual property (IP) and data protection (DP) matters. This is a permanent role and the lawyer will sit ina team of 10 in the London office, working closely alongside the business.The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Leading on the drafting, amendment and negotiation of outsourcing, technology/data, supplier and other commercial contracts with third parties in conjunction with relevant business teams, both in London and overseas.
  • Developing and implementing updates to the firms framework for review and negotiation of commercial contracts in accordance with agreed policies and procedures.
  • Working alongside key business teams to implement more efficient and agile processes for review, negotiation, execution and management of supplier contracts.
  • Acting as the principal point of contact for legal support for data and data privacy issues globally, including advising in relation to market data arrangements, data breaches, data subject access requests and handling interactions and correspondence withthe firms data regulators such as the UKs ICO.
  • Advising on the firms ongoing compliance with GDPR and other data privacy legislation and best practice; assisting with maintaining an inventory of evidence of compliance with applicable data privacy rules; assisting with the delivery of training for staff.
  • Supporting the firms data governance and security teams with privacy impact assessments, maintenance of the firms data governance framework and global data mapping and data sharing reviews.
  • Acting as the principal point of contact for legal support on the protection of the firms IP assets globally, whether registered or unregistered, including patents, trademarks, copyrights and design rights.
  • Developing, maintaining and implementing the firms IP strategy, practices and policies globally, including the use of trademark agents and local attorneys for IP matters; being the principal contact person for trademark agents and other third party suppliersof IP services as well as the firms business development, marketing and branding teams.
  • Co-ordinating responses to actual or threatened breaches of confidentiality or IP obligations owed to the firm, or owed by the firm to third parties.
This is an excellent and varied role and Im looking to speak with general corporate/commercial lawyers who have solid experience in negotiating outsourcing, technology/data and other supplier arrangements as well as a strong understanding of UK IP law andthe requirements of the EU GDPR and UK GDPR, in addition to experience in relation to IP and DP requirements of other jurisdictions.The ideal candidate will have at least 4 years PQE and will have a strong private practice background with some experience gained in-house on secondment in the financial services or asset management sector.If you would like to learn more about this opportunity, please email me at
