Reporting to a DevOps Manager, you will form part of a global team that will drive best practicesvia lean agile methodologies in the PaaS and SaaS arenas. Although you will function as a team technical leader, you will continue developing the skills necessary to help us deliver our products reliably, securely, cost-effectively, and with maximum performance through continuous improvements supporting a DevOps culture and a well-architected framework strategy.At Pearson, were committed to a world thats always learning, which begins with providing you with the resources you need to own and drive your learning and career development including:

You are responsible for:
  • Working in an Agile team environment , where team members collaborate on strategies that lead to continuous improvement.
  • Being a model and mentor for writing well-architected, well-tested and easy to understand services using software engineering methodologies (e.g., Infrastructure as Code , continuous integration and delivery, architecture reviews, etc.)
  • Collaborating with and supporting other agile product development teams and operational teams to maintain systems stability, availability, and performance levels.
  • Serving as a technical lead for one to multiple projects.
  • Developing tools that proactively automate away painful manual tasks and toil.
  • Employing observability platforms to collect, monitor, and analyze system metrics to maintain and improve the health of our systems.
  • Participating in the team on-call rotation to ensure our customers are given the best experience possible.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Prior experience in architecting and managing cloud-based solutions on AWS ( Amazon Web Services)
  • Must have experience with coding languages used in a Cloud/Operations engineering context (e.g. Python, Java, Git, Node etc.)
  • Minimum of 4+ years: VPC, EC2, ECS, S3, Route53, RDS, CloudFront, API Gateway, etc.
  • Experience with hosted application-monitoring tools such as CloudWatch, New Relic, etc.
  • Experience with container architecture and technologies such as AWS ECS and Docker
  • A strong understanding of the SDLC (Software Development Life Cycle) and the Agile software development methodology required.
  • An appetite for the automation and streamlining of tasks
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and collaboration skills.
  • Comfortable with configuration management and orchestration tools (Puppet, Ansible, Chef, etc.), and modern observability infrastructure (monitoring, metrics and logging)
  • Experience in a production environment supporting mission-critical applications desired.
  • Knowledge of standard production practices including change management desired.
  • A drive to learn and apply peer feedback.
  • BS or AAS degree in Computer Science or related technical field involving systems engineering (e.g., physics or mathematics), or equivalent practical experience.
