We can further offer mentoring and support from members of the critical care faculty at St George’s, who have both successfully undertaken, and are undertaking, the CESR pathway to specialist registration.Perioperative Sub-Specialty Interest:The successful candidate will be based on General Intensive Care and will be part of a 9 person on-call rota. They are expected to engage with the peri-operative programme at St George’s, and liaise with both the anaesthesia and surgical departments. There is scope to engage with the post-operative optimisation programme, as well as the new shared decision making clinic we are setting up. The post-holder will also be expected to engage with our peri-operative research programme (currently including the PQIP, ALLEGRO, and PRISM trials).Trauma Sub-Speciality Interest:The successful candidate will attend major trauma calls in the Emergency Department aiming to lead the trauma calls as they become more experienced. They will act as critical care liaison with the major trauma team and be involved with major trauma research, teaching and governance. They will have the ability to also attend trauma theatres, and be able to view the flow of the trauma patient throughout their trauma pathway.Education Sub-Speciality Interest:This fellow will be based in one of the critical care units, with time spent in the medical education centre (with a special interest in simulation - GAPS Centre). Day shifts will be split between medical education to pursue dedicated medical education projects and intensive care related work. The successful candidate would be encouraged to apply for and make significant progress toward completing a PGCME during their attachment. Successful candidates will also be expected to take on non-clinical activities commensurate with their needs and level of seniority and take a leading role in delivering the critical care education programme. St George’s Advanced Patient Simulator (GAPS) is an inter-professional training facility for health care teams. The dedicated centre includes two full-immersion high-fidelity simulation suites, a fully-equipped skills lab, a part-task training unit, in-house mobile simulation and support for satellite simulation groups.GMC sponsorshipWe are pleased to also be able to provide GMC sponsorship to trainees registered with a college in their home countries who wish to join us for a specialist fellowship. The successful applicants will have a minimum of 12 months experience in Intensive Care Medicine or Anaesthesia in their own country, and already will have demonstrated their clinical competence within their own training programme.
