Job Title: Senior Care WorkerLocation: Blackheath, London, SE3 0PWSalary: £14.01 p/hJob Type: Permanent, Part-Time (24 hours)/Full-Time (36 hours) per weekAbout Cullum Welch Court Morden College is a charity that is dedicated to enabling a life-lived independence for the older people they provide homes for, through life, as they grow older. Morden College has enriched the lives of its residents as well as their families, over thelast 300 years. The Charitys core purpose is to provide older people who are in need with a home for life within its beautiful grounds, with amazing facilities and surrounded by its caring people, who work tirelessly to provide the highest quality of care.Our Charitys Community Services are provided in the Almshouse accommodation at Blackheath and at Ralph Perring Court in Beckenham, through the vibrant communal space in the John Morden Centre and the case management approach that proactively identifies,assesses, and supports the most vulnerable in our community. Our residential care home, Cullum Welch Court ("CWC"), provides personal nursing and dementia care 24/7. With 32 beds, it is small enough to maintain a personalised service to its residents, yetlarge enough to provide the facilities required to meet their range of needs.JOB PURPOSEAs a Senior Care Worker, your purpose will be to provide residents with a "good life" by promoting dignity, independence, choice and fulfilment within a policy of managed risk taking. You will provide a person cantered care to residents by assessing, monitoringand evaluating individual needs as well as providing comfort, security and making a difference to their daily lives.Its important that you not only promote mental health and physical wellbeing to residents aiming to maximise their independence and meaningful engagement but also that you are able to update and maintain accurate care plans, records, assessments and areable to communicate this with families, GPs and other professionals.KEY RESPONSIBILTIES AND DUTIES

  • To work within the household team to which you are assigned at each shift, operating with respect and kindness to residents and colleagues and promoting a harmonious team atmosphere.
  • To be approachable, receptive, and reactive to resident needs, providing day to day personal care and responding in a timely manner to call bells and requests for assistance; to record and report any changes in a residents condition to the appropriateprofessional to ensure their wellbeing, security and safety.
  • Be responsive and sociable within the dementia household ensuring the inclusion of the resident in all social and occupational activities designed to enhance, stimulate, develop, and maintain the highest quality of life and enjoyment within the home.
  • Promote the mental and physical wellbeing of individuals living with dementia, including maximising their independence, and fostering an understanding of interventions and techniques for managing behavioural and psychological issues.
  • Be aware of how to apply the principles of the Mental Capacity Act (2005) to protect people who lack capacity and maximise their ability to make decisions or participate in decision-making.
  • To assist in and deliver an ongoing programme of tailored and meaningful activities focused on maximising everyones wellbeing, independence, and social engagement, whilst nurturing and promoting their right to choose. Always responding positively and cheerfullyto all enquiries, role modelling compassion and respect in all aspects of the care home.
SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
  • QCF Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care or equivalent.
  • QCF Level 3 Award in Awareness of Dementia or Certificate in Dementia Care or willingness to complete in first 6 months of employment
  • QCF Level 2 Award in End of Life Care
  • Minimum 12 months experience in a residential care setting or working with older people.
  • Minimum 12 months or equivalent, in a leadership role.
  • Minimum of 12 months assessed as competent in the management and administrative of medication, including controlled drugs and oxygen.
