Job Description

The DataHub Engineering team provides a distributed platform for hosting datasets, complete with managed data stores, search, discovery, batch analytics and real-time stream processing capabilities. We host financial reference datasets from all asset classes(fixed income, Equities, Indices..) which are market moving and critical to Bloombergs data strategy Our goals: ensure high quality content, which is indispensable to financial markets, is cataloged, standardized, discoverable and accessible in one place in addition to reducing the cost of data distribution and subscription and helping new-growth businessessucceed . Datahub platform processes 1 billion messages/ day through its streaming infrastructure for 1000s of financial datasets and is used by 100+ teams in Bloomberg for their data pipelines. How we work

• The DataHub team owns the companywide dataset schema registry. It is the Hub of financial data at the most influential financial data company in the world. Our core tenets are accessibility, discoverability and ease of use for engineers who use our platform.
• Our focus is building highly scalable, reliable backend for our users
• Our backend is primarily in Java and uses open source technologies (Apache Kafka, Vitess.io, MySQL, Hbase, Spark, Hadoop..).

• Exciting initiatives like build out of data portal used daily by thousands of engineers, data analysts, data scientists, ML and AI teams in the entire firm. In addition to building out a distributed control plane to facilitate user, admin activities forour platform
• Our main initiatives are
• Buildout of a modern control plane of a large distributed system. This includes provisioning of resources for Kafka, MySql at scale on prem and involves buildout of platform admin backend systems.
• Focus on self-service features and provide developer tooling
• Enhance DataHub UI backends to aid with dataset exploration and help users discover, search, explore critical financial datasets that power Bloomberg
• DataHub tenancy management which includes dataset stats, alarms for capacity management and tenant engagementWhat we are looking for:
• Experience building reliable high-performance services using Java
• Coding experience in one other programming language Python/Javascript/C/C++/Go
• Experience designing and building Product APIs
• Experience designing scalable systems using object stores, messaging and databases
• Experience in software instrumentation for monitoring and observability
• Move fast, build in increments and have a sense of urgency towards achieving results
