Job Description

The Senior Actuary will lead in the identification and creation of cutting-edge data assets and predictive models that feed into Hastings market-leading pricing activities. This role is within a combined team of Actuaries and Data Scientists championing the adoption of the latest machine learning (ML) techniques to leverage powerful insights from vast amounts of customer information and augment traditional modelling techniques.The Senior Actuarys understanding of general insurance principles is required to ensure that ML techniques are adopted and deployed appropriately to maximise commercial value, while ensuring a fair outcome for customers.This role can be based in Bexhill, London or from home. You will be required to come in to our Bexhill based headquarters, every few weeks.About the roleYour remit will include the following:

  • Create and maintain analytical tools to support in the management of our risk portfolio
  • Develop best in-class models to predict claims outcomes, fraud and other risk KPIs
  • Engineer powerful new rating factors to be deployed into our rating algorithms
  • Identify, analyse and monetise new data sources
  • Lead a small team of Actuaries and Data Scientists
  • About youSkills
  • Fellow of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (IFoA) or equivalent professional body
  • Experience in general insurance
  • Strong technical modelling skills
  • Proven track record of delivering commercial value
  • Keen interest in emerging ML techniques and how these can be used within Underwriting & Pricing
  • Strong SQL skills
  • Experience with the WTW software suite, e.g. Emblem, Radar, Classifier and ResQ
  • Strong senior stakeholder management and communication skills
  • Ability to work cross-functionally with Data Engineers, Data Scientists, Actuaries and Pricing Analysts
