Job Description

Job Title: SEN Teaching Assistant - Autism SupportLocation: Haringey, LondonPosition Type: Full-time, PermanentSalary: Competitive, dependent on experienceHorizon Teachers are seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to join a great team, providing essential support to a child with autism who is non-verbal. This role will involve working closely with the class teacher and SENCO to implementtailored support strategies and create a supportive learning environment that meets the specific needs of the student.Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-to-one support to the child with autism, assisting them with their learning and development.
  • Implement individualized education and behaviour plans, under the guidance of the class teacher and SENCO.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment, promoting the social and emotional well-being of the student.
  • Utilize appropriate communication strategies to support the non-verbal student in accessing the curriculum and expressing their needs.
  • Collaborate effectively with colleagues, parents, and external professionals to ensure a coordinated approach to support and intervention.
Requirements:
  • Previous experience working with children with autism and/or special educational needs is essential.
  • Strong understanding of autism spectrum disorders and familiarity with strategies for supporting non-verbal communication.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, colleagues, and parents.
  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for supporting the learning and development of children with special needs.
  • Relevant qualifications such as a Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification or equivalent would be advantageous.
