Job Description

Job description Job Purpose: We are a small, newly-registered Independent school specialising in the support and education of young adults with learning disabilities including autism, ADHD and behavioural issues. We are currently expanding and require adynamic, proactive and flexible teacher to join our team. You will be supporting one learner at their home in the Redhill area and classes at our main school location in central London. You will be responsible for supporting the learners educational needswhether academic or functional according to their individual support plan.Responsibilities: Teach individuals in their homes or small groups of pupils within, or outside the class Prepare and deliver lessons and resources either in the classroom room or at the clients home Support other staff members to deliver high quality education consistently Develop and adapt conventional teaching methods to meet the individual needs of pupils Collaborate with teaching assistants to define appropriate activities for the pupils in relation to the curriculum Assess young adults who have long or short-term learning difficulties and work with colleagues to identify individual pupils special needs Work with the Academic Manager and other senior members of the school to ensure that the requirements of the Equality Act (2010) are met in terms of reasonable adjustments and access arrangements Liaise with other professionals, such as social workers, speech and language therapists, physiotherapists and educational psychologists Work closely with parents and guardians to ensure the best care for their child Organise learning outside the classroom in activities such as community visits, school outings or sporting events Occasionally assist in severely disabled pupils personal care/medical needs Carry out administrative tasks, including updating and maintaining records of pupils progress, observations and end of term reports Attend statutory annual reviews or other related meetings, such as reviewing Education, Health and Care (EHC) plans Manage behaviour of learners. Provide occasional personal care if required (dependent on learners) Ability to communicate using Makaton and PECS or demonstrate a willingness to learnMandatory requirements:Experience in working with challenging behaviour studentsQTS / PGCE qualification or equivalentUp to date enhanced DBSDesirable

  • Able to drive
  • Flexibility and positive attitude
  • Familiarity with epileptic learners
