You must have lived continuously in the UK for the last 3 years for this role.UK driving licence is essential.The key purpose of the client is to maintain and promote a high plant health status in England and Wales and thereby contribute to the overarching purpose of protecting and promoting plant health within trade, agriculture and the natural environment.Vital work Day-to-day, you’ll tackle all the duties of a qualified Inspector. You’ll work with the likes of Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs, UK Border Agency and the Port Health and Animal Health authorities to advise on and certify plant exports and carry out crop surveys - involve issuing Statutory Notices when necessary and imposing legal obligations. We’ll also ask you to help develop contingency plans that combat potential outbreaks of non-indigenous pests or diseases.Tasks.Depending on your level of experience, training provided and site location, you maybe expected to do the some of the following tasks:Assist in the organise emergency measures to control outbreaks of specified quarantine and non- indigenous pests and diseases in areas of proven competency.Crop surveys and soil sampling in connection with regulations made to prevent the spread of dangerous plant pests and diseases.Under direction, certify for export plants and planting material after examination in accordance with the importing country’s requirements, including advice to exporters on the requirements.Inspection of certain agricultural and horticultural crops in connection with statutory and domestic plant health certification/classification schemes and marketing standard regulations.Field inspections and enforcement checks on the activities of seed firms and seed samplers.Statutory inspection of fresh Horticultural produce, imported plants, planting material and plant produce to ensure compliance with import regulations.Enforce the marketing standards and grading rules for fresh produce in England and Wales to ensure traders meet their statutory responsibilities.Conduct inspections and support heightened enforcement action against non-compliant traders including the possible collection and collation of evidence required for any criminal investigations where necessary.Collect samples and enforce olive oil standards, collect official market data and seize samples for Government pesticide residue testing.Certify for export produce, plants, seeds, grain, machinery and ware potatoes after examination in accordance with the importing country’s requirements, including issue of phytosanitary certificates and HMI produce conformity certificates for fresh Horticultural produce and advice to exporters on the requirements.Liaise closely with various regulatory bodies such as Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs, UK Border Agency, Port Health and Animal Health authorities.HoursMay be required to work at other locations, or overseas for short periods of time, so candidates must be prepared to work and stay away from home. A PHSI may be required to work in a shift pattern to meet business needs. This pattern can be early morning or a late evening shift and can span over weekends and public holidays.ExperienceExperience of having worked effectively in a people-facing environment.Previous experience in a similar role desirable.TechnicalEssential:Full Driving licenceMinimum of a HND or equivalent qualification in Agriculture or Horticulture or Knowledge of plants and horticulture to a working level equivalent to that of an HNDAbility to confidently converse in English to articulate complex technical matter to the trade Required skills
