RESIDENTIAL CHILDCARE OFFICER About The ServiceCrosslands, part of Cardiff Social Services, is a Childrens Home located in the Ely area of Cardiff. The home is a spacious detached home in its own gardens situated in walking distance of local shops, recreationalcentres & local amenities. The home is also in close proximity of the city centre and accessible by all major traffic routes in and out of Cardiff.Crosslands deliver high quality care to 6 young people between the ages of 11 - 17 meeting young peoples needsby promoting the Signs of Safety Framework which is an innovative strength based approach that provides stable, safe and nurturing placements. As a team, we strive to provide a restorative resilient, safe, nurturing and structured environment supporting physicaland emotional wellbeing.The young people in need may have experienced a breakdown in their family home or previous placement and may have experienced crisis in their lives and as a result may exhibit a range of trauma based symptoms and behaviours. They arelikely to feel vulnerable, anxious or distressed.Our team provide immediate support, ensuring we offer a warm and welcoming environment right from the start.We recognise and promote young peoples individual, unique and diverse needs and, where appropriate,maintain and strengthen their relationships with families, siblings and other people they identify as significant to them.Our team includes a Manager, 2 deputies, 2 Senior RCOs, 14 RCOs, waking night staff as well as support staff. Our team are providedwith, encouraged and supported in their personal development and training.Crosslands support young people to change and grow from adverse childhood experiences by creating an environment which transforms and leads to fulfilling lives.About the job We havean exciting opportunity for permanent full-time Residential Childcare Officer to join our experienced and dedicated team. Our team work across a full rota including earlies, lates and sleep in shifts. Working in line with our statement of purpose, takingresponsibility for the smooth and safe running of the establishment, ensuring that young people receive a sensitive service best meeting their social, racial, psychological, educational, cultural, physical identity and health care needs.You will assuming keyworker responsibilities by implementing, monitoring and recording individual placement plans in consultation with your supervisor and other members of the team. You will be involved in participation in regular, planned and specific pieces of work to meet ayoung persons identified needs. By creating and maintaining good relationships with young people to ensure they are fully involved in decision making that affect their lives and achieving self-advocacy and independence by developing their potential to learnand achieve.As part of the role, you will participate fully in the caring and supported living situation within the home which will involve household cleaning, maintenance, meal preparation and helping young people get around to events, activities, education,appointments and meetings.You will actively support the education plans for children which may include homework, revision, project work and other educational activities. As well encouraging reading and intellectual development of young people by creating apositive environment for learning and support creating positive links with schools, attending events, activities and parents evenings as appropriate.What We Are Looking For From You As a Residential Childcare Officer, you will play an essential role in caringfor our young people.You will be enthusiastic, emotionally literate and highly motivated able to demonstrate a "can-do" attitude and ready to go the extra mile, willing to learn and to share experiences.You will be committed to your personal and professionaldevelopment and will be fully supported through the All Wales Induction Framework and Level 3 Diploma in Health & Social Care and other continued professional development and training opportunities.Working in a positive and respectful manner, you will provideindividualised care through the development of professional and effective relationships.You will have a knowledge and understanding of the basic needs of a young person and their rights. You will be able to demonstrate an ability to communicate and work individuallyand as part of a team with young people, their families, colleagues, other professionals and external agencies.This is a physically, actively and emotionally challenging role which requires you to be able to meet those challenges. The role will need you tohave the ability to work within a shift pattern across the full week of earlies, lates, weekends and bank holiday working. You will also be required to include sleep-in -duties.
