Job Description

Research ManagerMembership Body - STEMFlexible Work Location - York or Home BasedBasic Salary £35,000-38,000 plus a range of benefits including 25 Days Holiday & Pension Scheme -14% Employer ContributionPermanent, Full TimeYork Office Based or Home Based (Home based would require one visit to the office every month) *Research Management experience in STEM within a membership body is highly desirableOur client a well-respected and reputable a STEM membership body based in York is currently looking for a Research Manager.The Role

  • In this role you will shape professional knowledge in their members STEM related sector.
  • Developing the membership body intellectual capital (the properties and assets we develop that deliver knowledge, and the processes that produce them)
  • You will synthesise a range of sources and inputs, such as publications and journals, horizon scan for emerging knowledge and bring the future forward.
  • In doing so you will enable the membership body to be increasingly proactive in setting the agenda nationally and internationally.
  • Working with members and staff, you will capture ideas and develop resources to support the daily work of professionals in STEM
  • You will help prepare members for the ways in which their operating environment will change in the decades ahead.
  • You will coordinate this agenda with members through research, as well as contributing to the selection of prize, grant and award winners as well as bursaries.
    • Essential
  • Knowledge of STEM issues relating to the medical sector or engineering sector
  • Educated to Post Graduate level
  • Experienced in producing primary and secondary research
  • Project management experience
  • Experience in facilitating workshops
  • Strong organisational skills with excellent attention to detail
  • Strong critical listening abilities
  • Strong information management capability
  • Ability to be flexible and manage competing priorities
  • Experience of modern, small-office IT systems
    • Desirable
  • Experience of working in the not for profit sector
  • A PhD in physics or engineering
  • Professional registration e.g. Engineering Council, Science Council
  • Experienced in knowledge management roles (e.g. librarian, researcher, curator) within STEM
  • Experienced manager of people and budgets (preferably in a small office or team)
