Job Description

Bartlett School of Sustainable ConstructionLondonResearch Fellow: Cost-benefit analysis of zero-carbon technologies in heating and coolingThe appointment will be on UCL Grade 7. This post is available for the period 1 October 2021 - 30 September 2023 inthe first instance.The salary range will be £36,770 - £44,388 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance.An EPSRC project "Heat Accumulation from Renewables with Valid Energy Storage and Transformation - HARVEST" (£1.5 million) has been jointly awarded to UCLand the University of Birmingham. This project aims to develop a novel technology for generating zero-carbon heating in winter and cooling in summer. The investigators are a multidisciplinary team with decarbonisation experts in economic analysis, environmentalassessment, and technology development.The team at UCL will carry out techno-economic assessment of the proposed technical solution and analyse its role in achieving the UKs 2050 Net Zero carbon emission targets. The successful applicant will assess the carbonemissions reduction effects of the proposed solution under different scenarios by 2050 and carry out cost-benefits analysis at the national level. Policy implications will be given for the UKs energy and climate strategies, such as renewable heat incentiveand zero-carbon heating targets. This post is available for the period 1 October 2021 - 30 September 2023 in the first instance.The complex nature of the project requires a candidate with insightful, reflective and critical capabilities and knowledge of energysystem modelling and carbon emission accounting. The candidate should master at least one programming language. Experience of working in a research environment is desirable, together with stakeholder management experience to enable them to manage the partnershipeffectively. They will have a commitment to high-quality research and development and be able to work collaboratively as part of a team. They will hold a good Bachelors degree and a PhD in economics, management, or a relevant built environment subject. TheResearch Fellow will work towards liaising with colleagues at UCL and across the consortium at all levels and in different business functions; have a proactive approach and ability to communicate effectively in a variety of formats is essential.
