Regional Advisory Board Chair - Yorkshire & North EastNon-remunerated - volunteer role - expenses paidTerm: 3 years minCirca: 2 days per monthStart: Summer 2021Canal & River Trust is one of the UKs largest and newest charities. Launched in 2012, the Trust took over the guardianship of British Waterways canals, rivers, reservoirs and docks in England and Wales - heralding the next chapter in the renaissance of the waterways. As the Charity for waterways and wellbeing, we are a key contributor to the health and wellbeing of the nation and bring together local communities transforming canals and rivers into spaces where local people want to spend time and feel better. We are the proud guardian of over 2,000 miles of historic inland waterways which touch millions of people in the major cities, towns and rural villages they run through. The nations wellbeing is at the core of what we do every day. Income now exceeds £216m (2019/20), and we have ambitious plans to grow further. Our boating customers desire high levels of service and the growing number of volunteers and community groups who help us care for the waterways also seek a rewarding experience. Last year alone, volunteers gave over 700,000 hours of time and expertise to support the Trust. You can find out more about our work Here.Our Yorkshire & North East region is vast and diverse. It covers North, South and West Yorkshire, East Riding, as well as parts of Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire and Tees. Across this region the Trust is the guardian for 320 miles of historic inland waterways that flow through the regions open countryside, historic industrial towns and great cities like Leeds, Sheffield and York, and also looks after a number of reservoirs, listed and important structures and Sites of Scientific Interest (SSSIs), including such as Bingley Five Rise Lock, Standedge Tunnel, as well as Tuel Lane Lock and the Tees Barrage.The Trust is uniquely placed to make a significant contribution to making a real difference and we are looking to appoint a Regional Advisory Board Chair for Yorkshire & the North East Region. The Regional Advisory Board Chair is a voluntary, non-executive role and will bring knowledge and experience that will help us better reach and serve our local communities across Yorkshire & north East region. Successful applicants will have established and intimate knowledge of and will be recognisable as a champion for the region. You will have strong relationships with local politicians and council officials, business and community leaders and other significant stakeholders across region. Our positioning as the charity for wellbeing and waterways will resonate powerfully with you, and your passion to help us achieve our ambitions in the years ahead through an impactful Regional Advisory Board for the Yorkshire & North East Region will be strong.
