Job Description

About the Service / DepartmentMental Health Lounge is an exciting new service based in St Marys Hospital, Paddington to provide crisis intervention through sessions/coping mechanisms. The Lounge is a community-based crisis alternative service, provided by Hestia on behalf of Centraland North West London NHS Foundation Trust, offering non-clinical support to individuals experiencing a crisis or mental distress.We provide a welcoming, safe and supportive space as for anyone assessed to be experiencing or are at risk of developing mental health distress. The service aims to equip people with the skills they need to reduce their immediate anxiety, formulate individualself-directed support plans and provide them with information / advice around the local services and resources that may help them moving forward.About the role

  • Welcome people to a safe space and provide appropriate support.
  • Motivate customers to identify causes of crises and to prevent these issues triggering crisis in the future.
  • Liaise effectively with statutory providers and other voluntary sector agencies involved in the support and/or treatment of Service Users.
  • Actively participate in continued professional development to be able to support customers with a range of mental health issues and associated impacts including thoughts of self-harm, drug and alcohol use and behaviour which may be experienced as challenging.
About you
  • Knowledge of issues affecting individuals with a range of mental health conditions including crisis management, how to communicate effectively with these individuals and how to support them with dignity and respect.
  • Knowledge of relevant Mental Health legislation i.e. Care Program Approach (CPA) processes.
  • Understanding of the principles of recovery as an ethos and a range of recovery approaches.
  • Ability to work as part of a team, on own initiative and to oversee induction of new peer staff and volunteers.
  • Ability to work with statutory services i.e. NHS at the front line.
  • Ability to work Monday to Sunday 9.00am -5.00pm including working bank holidays on a rota basis.
  • Good IT skills that including a working knowledge of functions in MS Word, Outlook and the internet.
  • Good literacy and numeracy skills, able to produce clear written correspondence in hard copy or email.
  • Knowledge and understanding of safeguarding issues and ability to address them appropriately.
  • Demonstrable experience of working with individuals who have experienced mental health and/or dual diagnosis issues.
