Job Description

The RoleAs a Quant Developer within Execution Analytics, youll work alongside the trading desk and researchers to build best-in-class analytics at scale. The crux of the challenge is to implement robust, advanced analytics and visualisations across noisy datasetsthat scale to hundreds of millions of rows. Youll build a deep understanding of how listed and OTC instruments are traded, developing tools to analyse execution performance and the drivers behind it. The team is small, providing the unique opportunity toinfluence how Man Group trades trillions annually. The TeamThe Execution Analytics team builds the platform that delivers insight into our execution performance. This varies from systems that allow us to answer questions like How much has Mans trading cost in the past year" to tools that visualise the inner workingsof our proprietary execution algorithms. We have direct exposure to every asset class and strategy across the firm, so its an opportunity to build a deep understanding of the financial markets that underpin Man Groups business. Our TechnologyWe leverage the full scientific Python stack to build our systems: NumPy, Pandas and Plotly for visualisation. Our workloads are orchestrated via Airflow on Kubernetes and were heavy users of Man Groups 8000 core Spark cluster for large jobs. For storagewe rely on Arctic, Man Groups timeseries database and for frontend development we typically use Typescript and React. Working HereMan Tech has a small company, no-attitude feel.   • Exceptional technology skills, recognised by your peers as an expert in your domain
  • Strong knowledge of Python
  • Relevant mathematical knowledge e.g. statistics
  • A proponent of strong collaborative software engineering techniques and methods: agile development, continuous integration, code review, unit testing, refactoring and related approaches
  • Proficient on Linux platforms with knowledge of various scripting languages
  • Proficient with a range of open source frameworks and development tools e.g. NumPy/Pandas/Plotly, React
  • Familiarity with a variety of programming styles (e.g. OO, functional)
Advantageous
  • Experience of front office quantitative software development e.g. in a hedge fund or investment bank, ideally in an execution context
  • Experience building visualisations for large and complex datasets
  • Experience with an asset class, whether from an execution or investment point of view
Personal Attributes
  • Strong academic record and a degree with high mathematical or computing content e.g. Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering or Physics from a leading university
  • Craftsman-like approach to building software; takes pride in engineering excellence and instils these values in others

  • Strong interpersonal skills; able to establish and maintain a close working relationship with quantitative researchers, traders and senior business people alike
