Job Description

The Institute of Physics (IOP) is looking for an experienced, strategic Public Affairs Manager to join the Policy Team. We are working on some very exciting projects to help transform physics in the UK: increasing diversity in education and the workplace,ensuring children have access to world-class physics education, and fostering investment in technical skills and STEM.The roleThe Public Affairs Manager role is a newly created and is critical to the success of our Strategy. Working with colleagues acrossthe organisation, you will drive forward the development and delivery of our public affairs work to achieve long term, positive changes in government policy and practice.Key Responsibilities include: Developing and implementing a public affairs plan that reflectsthe IOPs strategic priorities and programmes. Advising on the new opportunities and risks associated with the IOPs external policy work, and make recommendations on how to engage with these in a timely and convincing manner. Supporting the Head of Policyin other areas of policy engagement, analysis and dissemination. Supporting other Heads in identifying influencing opportunities and developing public affairs plans.The PersonThe Public Affairs Manager will be an experienced professional who can lead the developmentand delivery of the IOPs political influencing strategy and help us to drive forward our policy priorities.Candidates will have a proven track record in political analysis and lobbying, influencing decision makers and working with colleagues to develop strategiesthat create real impact. In addition to this, we are looking for strong leadership, interpersonal skills and excellent communication skills.
