Job Description

About the positionWe are seeking a full-time experienced Project Manager / Technical Expert with skills and experience in international development, sustainability and global challenges to join our team based in our London office. We are looking for candidates with strong technical skills that fall within our CRUNCH and/or Climate Hubs, with a strong understanding of the linkages between them. The position falls in our £35-50K salary band, subject to experience. The primary place of work will be Agulhass London office, alongside the Regents Canal, in N1, but in view of COVID-19, staff are currently working from home until such time as conditions permit a safe return to the office. We encourage applicants from diverse backgrounds.Personal SpecificationTo succeed in this role, you will need outstanding project management capacity, technical skill in social science research and M&E methodologies, strong analytical, critical thinking and drafting skills, and a broad understanding of current international development and sustainability issues. You will have proven project management experience and a strong track record of delivering complex programmes to budget and within the designated timeframe, while meeting the highest quality standards. You will be well practiced in formulating and following corporate policies and standard operating procedures and in managing field research to demanding quality and ethical standards.You will have a talent for providing thoughtful, innovative analysis, will be able to articulate your ideas clearly and succinctly, and can represent Agulhas effectively to a range of external stakeholders. You will be an excellent communicator, both in writing and verbally.You will be a strategic thinker with the capacity both to delegate and to step in to support other team members, demonstrating an inclusive and respectful approach to working in teams and with individuals who may have a range of different experiences and competencies. DETAILED REQUIREMENTSTechnical Delivery

  • An advanced degree in a relevant discipline
  • 6-10 years work experience in international development, ideally with a period of time living and working in developing countries
  • Strong social science research skills, including an ability to synthesise literature, interpret statistitcs and quantitative data, conduct effective interviews and design qualitative research, together with an understanding of ethical research practices
  • An ability to critically assess evidential sources, to reach, argue and defend evidence-based conclusions, and to produce high-quality, client-ready written work
  • Thematic expertise falling within either or both the CRUNCH Hub (such as conflict and fragility; humanitarian policy; peace, justice and human rights; migration; corruption and organised crime; CVE; risk management) or the Climate Hub (climate finance; sustainability; just transition; building resilience).
  • An understanding of political economy analysis and institutional development
  • A broad understanding of the international architecture for development and humanitarian assistance, current thinking on good aid practice, and fluency with key concepts and debates in the international development and humanitarian field
  • Broad experience with project management techniques and processes, proficiency in creating budgets, timelines and monitoring arrangements, and proven ability to deliver projects to budget and timeframe
  • Excellent commercial acumen
  • An ability to adopt innovative approaches and a flexible, adaptive mind-set
  • Strong interpersonal skills and proactive team management style, including working effectively within teams and supporting other team members
  • An ability to interact with clients professionally and competently, on both substantive and project management issues
  • Experience with business development, including identifying new opportunities and supporting the preparation of high-quality technical and commercial proposals
  • An ability to participate effectively in high-level meetings with clients and partner organisations
  • Ability and willingness to travel to and within developing countries, and to comply with strict duty of care requirements when operating in insecure environments (in other circumstances, the position will require travel up to 20% of the time, but travel is currently curtailed)
  • A proactive work ethic combined with an ability to manage competing priorities and strong time management skills
