Programme Editor (Assistant Editor) - Good Morning Britain12 Month Fixed Term ContractLondonGood Morning Britain is looking for an outstanding, experienced television programme editor to join its senior team of Assistant Editors. This is a crucial role, leading a large team of journalists and producers during the day and overnight, to shape, build and output the show. You must have unrivalled story-spotting skills, bags of original ideas and effervescent energy. Significant live television experience and a demonstrable background in broadcast journalism is essential.You will report to the Editor and Deputy Editors, but will regularly take charge of the whole programme and be responsible for seeing it through from conception to broadcast. You will be expected to inspire, brief and manage high profile presenters and a busy production team. You will be an ideas powerhouse, constantly suggesting original, engaging content and great guests, across our wide remit of news, entertainment, debate and human interest. You will have a thorough knowledge of legal and regulatory compliance and have a deep understanding of what makes fantastic breakfast television.ResponsibilitiesDAY EDITING Work alongside the News Editor and Senior Producer to find and select the best stories and items for the next days programme. Demonstrate creative flair in producing content that rates and increases audience. Liaise with internal departments (eg. Planning, News Features, Entertainment, Competitions) over pre-planned content, and provide future content ideas. Manage the Output team to produce the highest quality programme and best story treatments. Liaise with and brief presenters on programme content. Assist the News Editor with bulletin production and correspondent deployments. Maintain an overview of programme budgets.NIGHT EDITING Take sole charge of the operation overnight, leading the team of Producers and News Editors. Shape the show, overseeing writing and teasing, crafting the final rundown and story selection. React quickly and confidently to new stories, breaking news, newspapers. Brief presenters and output the live show from the gallery.OTHER DUTIES Occasionally take charge of special projects, longer term planning and domestic and foreign OBs. A strong interest in non-linear and digital content. Passionate and proactive about promoting diversity both on-screen and off-screen.MANAGEMENT Line manage a small team of Senior Producers, Producers and Researchers. Maintain relationships with other departments and the wider ITV and Daytime family. Assist the Editor and Deputy Editors with management duties and strategic planning as required. LEGAL & COMPLIANCE Ensure legal and regulatory compliance at all times. Enhance and protect ITV and GMBs reputation.Qualifications A journalism qualification would be welcome, but is not essential. Excellent editorial judgement with a track record of delivering outstanding content to deadlines and under pressure. Proven leader with an ability to manage and get the best out of both large teams and high-profile talent. A reputation for creative storytelling, treatments and production. Thorough and demonstrable knowledge of news, sport, current affairs, human interest and popular culture. Keen interest in training, mentoring and developing team members. Experience of leading a large team in a busy newsroom environment. Proven track record of making crucial decisions under pressure. Extensive live gallery and breaking news experience. Thorough knowledge of television production techniques, including scripting, production and outside broadcasts. Experience of planning and producing a live, daily news, current affairs or magazine show. Experience of line-managing and developing a team. Experience of managing high-profile talent.
