Job Description

A hybrid technical and product development role with bundles of autonomy and ownership working across multiple retailers!Client DetailsLeading brand/private label name in the FMCG Food spaceDescriptionKey responsibilities will include:

  • Analysing market categories through regular store visits - to identify commercial and product offering gaps
  • Attending customer meetings to present and panel product offerings
  • Attending supplier sites for product and technical development sessions
  • Constructing and managing critical paths across a range of different product formats
  • Identifying and solving product development issues at all stages of the product lifecycle
  • Forging and strengthening relationships with suppliers and customers
  • Learning and interacting with necessary client development software platforms
  • Gathering technical and product data from partner sites
  • Generating sample submission forms
  • Coordination of all nutritional and other analyses with external laboratories
  • Signing off artworks / label checks
  • Act as the central retail customer and manufacturer partner liaison on all technical and quality related matters
  • Support manufacturer partners in preparing for retail customer audits / first productions
  • Attend first productions supporting the retail customer and manufacturer client
  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders in development projects to ensure that all quality requirements and technical tasks are met
  • Supporting supplier base through all aspects of the retailer specification process for private label:
  • Working with partner sites to gather raw material, recipe and process flow data
  • Drafting and agreeing the specification with partner sites where required
  • Managing each specification through the various stages of its lifecycle
  • Liaising with internal and external stakeholders throughout
  • Managing all aspects of quality sign off for projects:
  • Drafting Quality Attribute Sheets
  • Agreeing pre-production samples and attending pre-production trials
  • Liaising with internal and external stakeholders for sign off at each stage
  • BRC Agents & Brokers / Round Table Sustainableingredient Certification
  • Own the audit processes for BRC and RSPO Certification business side ensuring the audits are scheduled and resources martialled across the business to ensure we maintain certification grades
  • Liaise with external technical consultants who support business throughout the BRC and RSPO process to ensure key actions are undertaken on time and to budget
  • Maintain portfolio of Retailer Technical Systems; Coop My Core, Tesco Quality Connect, M&S Find/Connect, Morrisons Create, Waitrose Product Pathway, Sedex etc
  • Maintain knowledge and awareness of food legislation and retail customer policies on key food technology areas
  • ProfileThe ideal candidate will posess the following:
  • At least 2 years in a FMCG Private Label environment either with a UK retailer or a supplier to this sector
  • Front facing experience with UK Retailers in development sessions essential
  • Proven track record in developing new ranges through to finished products essential
  • Ability and experience with drafting specifications an advantage
  • Experience with managing BRC or working within a BRC System an advantage
  • Food science qualification essential or the ability to demonstrate a food science background gained through experience
  • BRC Authorised Auditor status would be an advantage
  • Competent in PowerPoint and Excel
  • You love food and can identify food trends which inspire you in your working life
  • Outgoing and confident - you are able to project your ideas clearly in a room full of people and bring them round to your way of thinking
  • Calm under pressure and able to multitask / prioritise effectively
