Job Description

As part of this successful global manufacturing organisation, the European business now requires an experienced Procurement Category Manager to lead the development and implementation of its procurement strategy for selected categories, as part of the procurement transformation program, throughout the European region.The group has locations throughout the European region. For this role, candidates can be located near to any of their main international business units.The Role:Reporting to the European Senior Category Manager, as the Procurement Category Manager for the region, you will be responsible for, but not limited to:

  • responsibility for category management of nominated category areas
  • accountability for delivering year on year goals across the regions, through a clear category plan
  • linking and leveraging common spend and suppliers to the benefit of all the business units
  • consolidating and realigning the supplier base
  • developing long term supplier relationships with strategic suppliers to achieve improvement in performance
  • managing a supply market analysis and cost model approach
  • leading cross-region/function category teams for targeted projects
  • aligning and influencing senior management and the supplier base to gain buy-in to the category strategy and approach
    • The Candidate:Ideally of graduate standard, or higher, from within an engineering, manufacturing or business related discipline, candidates for the Procurement Category Manager role will also preferably have achieved, or be working towards their further MCIPS (or equivalent) qualification.In addition, candidates for the Procurement Category Manager role will be required to demonstrate that they have:
  • at least 5 years previous experience working within a procurement role/ organisation
  • further experience of working within a category management role
  • previous experience of working on a pan-European / international business basis
  • the ability to swiftly interpret complex international organisations and successfully build an internal network
  • excellent communication skills, a flexible approach and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, challenging environment
  • strong analytical and problem solving skills with the ability to balance strategy with execution in order to achieve objectives
    • Candidates for the Procurement Category Manager role should also be:
  • results driven individual with a strong commitment to success
  • a hands-on type individual, who demonstrates initiative and has a positive, professional, "can-do" attitude
  • a strong capable leader, with the presence and ability to communicate, motivate and influence at the highest level
  • able to work effectively both within a team but also under their own initiative
  • highly proficient in MS Office applications including Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • excellent in planning and negotiation and with strong organisational skills
    • Candidates for the Procurement Category Manager role should note that there will be frequent travel within and outside the European region with this role. European language skills would also be a benefit, but are not essential. Required skills
